Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, long term care insurance, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans.  This position is a twelve (12) month, non-tenure track, special appointment with University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), Department of Biomedical Sciences.Job Summary and Responsibilities:                                                A Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available at the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of North Dakota, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, to study the immune mechanisms required for the maintenance of immune homeostasis at the mucosal surfaces of the intestinal tract. Using a wide range of established animal models, we are trying to understand how immune responses to mucosal pathogens and during Intestinal inflammation are regulated. Our lab is interested in using state-of-the-art immunology, microbiology, single-cell analysis, molecular biology, and genomic approaches to understand the mechanisms by which immunity/inflammation is regulated at the mucosal surface of the intestine. A multidisciplinary strategy is being used in this study, which includes flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, microbiomics and in vivo functional studies involving animal models of infection/intestinal inflammation.  Candidates are expected to interact with faculty, staff, and students within a larger group of researcher personnel at UND studying mucosal immunology/host-pathogen interactions.

The candidate will perform laboratory-based research in this area including:

    The design, implementation, analysis, and interpretation of laboratory experiments.Assist in grant and manuscript preparation.Help train graduate and undergraduate students.Participate in all additional facets of the research laboratory.
Candidates with considerable experience in immunology/host pathogen interactions  or related fields are encouraged to apply.  Experience with any of the following will be an advantage: flow cytometry, animal models of infection/inflammation, microbiomics, and advanced imaging techniques. Minimum Requirements: 
    Possess a recent (3 years ago or less) Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in immunology, microbiology/parasitology, infection biology or related discipline.Minimum of 4 years research experience in at least one of the following areas: immunology, microbiology, infection microbiology, as demonstrated in your CV.Minimum of one first author peer-reviewed publication in top-tier journalsSuccessful completion of criminal history records check

Preferred Requirements:
    Demonstrated ability to independently complete complex research programs.Proficiency in scientific oral and written communication.Experience with flow cytometry.Familiarity with microbiome analysis.Knowledge of immunology, primary cell culture, qRT-PCR, RNA/DNA isolation and purification, transcriptome analysis.
