About This Position
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has a great career opportunity for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr. Emiliano Cocco, a new faculty member whose research focuses on the study of the biology of rare oncogenic drivers and on the identification of mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapy in solid tumors, is looking for a highly motivated scientist interested in cancer research.
The individual will be assigned to multiple projects aimed at evaluating the oncogenic properties of different gene fusions and oncogene mutations. Immortalized cells of different origins will be engineered to express these altered genes. The characterization of the resulting cell models will include the evaluation of the intracellular localization of the fusions, their oncogenic and metastatic potential, their response to therapy as well as the identification of the downstream pathways that are preferentially activated. Cell models will also be used to establish xenografts for in vivo studies.
The laboratory is fully equipped with access to outstanding core facilities at the University of Miami School of Medicine and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position conducts research on solid tumors in specific areas of study as assigned. Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies such as proteomic and transcriptomic. Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
The Postdoctoral Fellow performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of the principal investigator. A successful candidate should have documented experience in cancer biology and studies of biochemistry. The Postdoctoral Fellow promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant lab that will include research associates, research assistants, and students.
