Job Description:

As a Principal Engineer, you will act as a subject matter expert in multiple product areas supporting our butterfly, ball, knife gate, water control gate and water control valve engineering departments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary technical authority on-site for multiple/all product lines, leveraging extensive experience to resolve intricate engineering challenges.
  • Strategizes and executes assignments, often encompassing larger, pivotal projects or managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Assumes leadership roles, directing projects and guiding team members as necessary.
  • Contributes to the assessment of personnel or vendor performance, offering insights and recommendations.
  • Acts as a liaison between departments, divisions, and external organizations, fostering collaboration and synergy.
  • Evaluates progress and results, advocating for significant procedural, process, or product enhancements as needed.
  • Exercises autonomy in decision-making, conducting critical and intricate technical inquiries independently. Provides mentorship to junior staff as an advisor.
  • Provides training or consultation, as necessary, to less experienced/knowledgeable team members.
  • Enhances system tools to optimize result reporting efficiency and streamline workflows effectively.
  • Executes additional responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating adaptability and versatility in addressing evolving needs.

Required Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve goals through influence.
  • Ability to assess and train others.
  • Fully competent in all tools relevant to product engineering job functions. i.e. MRP systems, 2D and 3D modeling, Finite Element Analysis, Statistical Analysis, Databases and Analytics
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma tools.
  • Outstanding PC/Systems knowledge and skills including 3D CAD software and PLM databases.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills with ability to interact with all levels of employees, customers, and outside professionals.
  • Knowledge dealing with manufacturing situations, quality standards, product development, CAD/CAM, technical specifications, and project management.
  • Travel may be required occasionally.

Required Education/Experience:
  • At minimum a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar technical degree.
  • 20+ years of experience in a relevant technical field - or - 10+ years of relevant and outstanding Mueller experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of a combination of several of the following: butterfly, ball, knife gate, water control gates and water control valves.
  • Considerations for those obtaining PE certification.
  • Advanced knowledge of AWWA valve specifications.

Preferred:
  • PE Certification

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to remain in stationary position or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate between
  • Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to constantly communicate with others to exchange information in person, via phone, or via use of computer.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 pounds in weight in all directions.
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel.
