Everlaw has rapidly expanded over the past 18 months and we're continuing to grow. Everlaw is looking for a Privacy Specialist to help develop, implement, and manage Everlaw's privacy program. You will interact with all levels of the organization, and function as an integral team member in advancing the overall security, privacy and compliance program with respect to privacy-related policies, procedures, operational workflows, laws and regulations. Our ideal candidate is someone with privacy and data protection experience, who enjoys working in a collaborative environment.

This is a full-time exempt position located onsite in Oakland, California.

Getting started

    • We want you to feel like part of the team early on! Our onboarding process will integrate you into the company with informative sessions on our product, policies, processes, and team structure and goals.
    • We're excited for you to learn, grow, and contribute right away! We trust that you will bring experience and knowledge that will uplift and uplevel the team, but we don't expect you to know everything on Day 1.


In your role, you'll
    • Partner and collaborate with all key business areas to ensure data privacy issues and ongoing compliance with privacy laws, are considered at the outset of new projects, products, services and offerings
    • Develop and manage internal controls relating to privacy and data protection legal and technical frameworks
    • Lead team documentation of internal metrics and project tracking
    • Establish and manage tools, guidelines and playbooks for operational privacy workflows including privacy impact assessments
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders on privacy third-party audits and examinations (e.g. HIPAA, CCPA, GDPR)
    • Work with internal teams to research and respond to privacy and data protection questions from other team members
    • Perform regular privacy risk assessments, including organizing recurring meetings, reviewing and implementing process changes, business and/or support function procedures and internal controls, and assessment and/or development of internal documentation
    • Monitor the industry landscape to keep visibility on evolutions, trends and best practices related to data privacy
    • Educate and engage Everlaw employees across all teams about policies and processes and help drive privacy awareness and a culture of security and compliance across all Everlaw teams


About you
    • You have at least 2 years of proven experience in the privacy space
    • You demonstrate deep understanding and knowledge of US and global data protection laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
    • You demonstrate experience developing processes for implementing privacy requirements like privacy impact assessment and data subject access and deletion requests
    • You have experience working with product teams on implementing privacy by design
    • You are able to analyze and anticipate and interpret potential privacy risks and draw conclusions that can be shared to both technical and non-technical teams to support privacy data security decisions
    • You are capable of conducting data privacy compliance reviews and audits
    • You have a Bachelor's degree in any field
    • You have excellent communication, interpersonal, and issue resolution abilities
    • You are eager to work in a cross-functional role with the entire Everlaw team
    • You are strong self-directed work habits, exhibiting initiative, drive, creativity, maturity, self-assurance, and professionalism, and a strong attention to detail


Nice to have
    • Project management experience
    • Familiarity with certain security and compliance frameworks (e.g. PCI, SOC 2, NIST, ISO27001, HIPAA)
    • You have a JD, CIPP or similar license/certification
    • You have experience working in international organizations
