Job Description

This is a remote position; the selected candidate can reside and perform the work from anywhere within the United States.

A primary part of this role will be driving design forward, educating others, and building partnerships. You will be tasked with defining best-practices and industry standards that can be scaled across our digital product ecosystem. A key part of this role will also be elevating company knowledge and advancing a culture of change for the organization. It's important that this individual is an excellent team member and be capable leading Design System initiatives.This individual should not only have a strong technical expertise but also a desire to mentor and teach.

Responsibilities

• Act as the subject matter expert for industry guidelines and standards, with a commitment to staying informed as new ones evolve

• Consistently improve and enhance the Design System documentation, as well as the Figma libraries that support it

• Act as a trusted partner that can collaborate with cross-functional teams and external agencies in a way that helps drive adoption and implementation of the Design System

• Provide expert feedback in the areas of design, development, and testing to teams across GM for new features and functionality that leverage the Design System

• Partner with Design Operations to introduce new workflow processes and scalable roll-out strategies for the design team

• Participate in testing and evaluating digital products, partner design systems, and Figma libraries

• Understand how a global matrixed organization operates and functions, and thrive in this type of environment

Key Characteristics

Figma Whiz:You are well-versed in all things Figma! You are excited to share your software knowledge with others and help teams successfully integrate it into their workflow. You have experience transitioning complex component libraries from other software tools, like Sketch, into Figma.

Creativity:You can generate numerous potential solutions to a problem. More importantly, you can screen out bad ideas and identify good ones. In our design environment, a designer needs the ability to brainstorm without ego attachment to any particular idea.

Superb communication skills:You can effectively communicate broad concepts, as well as fine detail. You lead design discussions and can effectively articulate a persuasive design point-of-view with stakeholders, developers, and other partners.

A quick study:You can understand design systems and processes, both in software and in the real world. You will be required to digest and understand the many complex factors that govern digital design. You will be able to successfully navigate those factors as you create design solutions.

Outstanding collaboration skills:You are an effortless collaborator. You welcome ideas and critique from any source and are prepared to build upon them to make the work of your team successful. Your ability to take feedback and give it respectfully aids in cross-functional productivity.

Proactivity:You automatically solve for or know when to escalate foreseen problems before they become unmanageable. You speak up without hesitation or fear.

A keen eye:You're quick to recognize UI patterns and inconsistencies and understand how to connect the dots.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience creating user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications across a range of channels
  • Formal degree or training in HCI, Product Design, Interaction Design, Visual Design, Library science, or software related
  • Fluent in Figma
  • Strong portfolio with work samples showcasing expertise in Design Systems
  • Experience incorporating research into the design process
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills and proven history of championing initiatives

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to identify and apply technology to achieve design goals
  • Prototyping experience (software and/or hardware development experience a plus)

Compensation: The median level of salary compensation for this role is $122,673.00

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
