Description
Are you interested in working on a variety of projects with people from different teams and backgrounds? Then come join our team at NDOT! Our Consultant Coordinator positions will engage you on projects from maintenance to new construction, while working with a variety of groups from consultants to our environmental teams and our Districts.

You will gain valuable experience learning how NDOT takes projects from concept to construction and providing safe and reliable transportation systems to the traveling public. If unable to fill at the Professional Engineer I level, will consider applicants at the Engineer level. Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline. Must obtain Engineer Intern Enrollment (Engineering in Training Certification) within one year of employment.

Applicants are required to have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Consideration will be given to applicants who will receive a Bachelor's degree within 120 days of application date. Possession of a FE/EIT Certificate is required OR the ability to obtain one within one year of employment. Applicants will also be expected to obtain their professional engineer's license at the first available opportunity that they are eligible to sit for the examination.

Examples of Work
• Evaluates project programming documents to assist in the development of scopes of services and maintain project schedule.
• Reviews project programming documents. Monitors the completion of legal agreements and contracts for NDOT, consultants, railroads, and utility companies.
• Reviews road, street, and bridge project plans and computations, submitted by the consultant, for conformance to NDOT standards, policies, and generally accepted design and construction principles.
• Represents NDOT Roadway Design at pre-programming, project, and environmental scoping, progress, coordination, plan-in-hand, and public meetings, often conducted at project sites.
• Monitors the progress of assigned projects from initiation to letting.
• Identifies and assesses risks to project delivery and coordinates with the necessary agency staff to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
• Reviews various documents produced during the design phase for accuracy and completion.,
• Prepares reports for management review.
• Review project quantities and submit for preparation of project cost estimates.
• Reviews requests for proposals and all required consultant selection documentation to ensure project details are accurate.
• Reviews road, street, and bridge project plans and computations, submitted by the consultant, for conformance to NDOT standards, policies, and generally accepted design and construction principles.
• Advises the Consultant of non-conformance issues, documentation requirements, information needs, and requested plan changes.
• Aids the Consultant in addressing design, construction, compliance, or related issues that arise during any phase of the Roadway Design project; facilitates reasonable determinations and beneficial solutions to the issues.
• Maintains Roadway Design project master files and electronic databases to ensure required correspondence, concurrences, permits, authorizations, agreements, and documents are present and organized.
• Prepares Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) submittal package for review by the NDOT Construction Division, PS&E Section; coordinates PS&E required changes to the contract documents with the Consultant.
• Contacts and discusses project progress with the consultant to maintain status updates for key project activities; reviews status and discusses options with the consultant to meet scheduled deadlines and to ensure Roadway Design projects proceed toward project delivery.
• Participates in NDOT agency, division, and section meetings, as needed.
• Completes special projects, such as process reviews, as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Professional Engineer: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment. Engineer: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline. Must obtain Engineer Intern Enrollment (Engineering in Training Certification) within one year of employment.

PREFER:
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Nebraska.
• Five years' experience in roadway design and/or highway construction.
• Experience in project coordination and scheduling.
• Prior experience leading and/or assisting in the development of projects being prepared for a NEPA Environmental Impact Statement or Environmental Assessment.
• Experience communicating technical information and instructions to diverse groups including internal and external teammates at all levels, the public, and representatives of other governmental branches and jurisdictions

OTHER:
• Engineering degrees must be from an EAC/ABET-accredited program (or evaluated by NCEES as equivalent).
• Regular and reliable attendance.
• Overnight travel will be required on occasion.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate, both verbally and in written form, with individuals and different levels within an organization or the public.
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret project plans, agreements, and other contract documents.
• Knowledge of Nebraska Board of Public Roads Classifications and Standards Minimum Design Standards, AASHTO Design Policy, ADA Accessibility guidelines, State and Federal regulations, policies, and guidelines applicable to highway projects, general transportation related engineering, design, and construction principles such as surveys, drainage design, geometrics, roads, bridges, and culverts.
• Strong Organization skills
• Ability to facilitate effective meetings or discussions to resolve project issues.
