JOB SUMMARY

The Connecticut Transportation Institute (CTI) seeks applicants for a full-time position as a Program Development Coordinator. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the incumbent will assist CTI growing the national reputation of the Center as well as increasing and diversifying the funding opportunities for the Center. The successful candidate will work with UConn faculty and investigators from CTI as well as other departments across UConn to organize collaborative research programs, seek funding opportunities, and assist in the development of grant applications managed by CTI. The successful candidate will be a flexible, creative, team player with the ability to lead meetings, organize and develop proposal documents, and assist faculty in the writing of competitive research proposals across a wide variety of subjects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provides technical assistance, training, and advice to faculty, University administration, and other professional staff on the preparation and submission of grant proposals.
  • Provides technical writing and editing expertise to faculty and staff.
  • Actively seeks funding opportunities and requests for proposals that are relevant to the focus areas of the Center.
  • Facilitates meetings with UConn Faculty and staff to build collaborative research teams focused on strategic grant opportunities.
  • Facilitates meetings with other universities and private corporations to build relationships that could lead to diverse funding opportunities and grant applications.  
  • Maintains records and writes and submits monthly research and scholarship informational reports based on meetings and prospective grant opportunities.
  • Coordinates with faculty and staff to obtain approvals necessary for sponsored grants, contracts, subcontracts, and other agreements.
  • Serves as liaison between University administration, faculty, and granting agencies.
  • Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Administration, English, Communications, Creative or Technical Writing, or a related field.
  • At least three years of related experience.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Clear understanding of detailed grant program guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to use Microsoft products and software applications.

  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Master's degree in a research-related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities with particular emphasis on the ability to understand, interpret, and summarize scientific research initiatives across a variety of subject domains for presentation to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing complex solicitations and translating technical concepts into a fundable proposal.
  • Proven experience in business development, strategic planning, project management, and technical writing.
  • Ability to assume the lead role in project and program management and demonstrated expertise in managing the development of complex documents, together with faculty colleagues.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple complex programs and activities in a timely manner with a high degree of quality, while remaining responsive to varying deadlines.

  • APPOINTMENT TERMS 

    This is a full-time, 12-month, annually renewable position. Salary will be commensurate with successful candidate's background and experience.
