The opportunity

We are currently looking for a Property Tax Consultant to join our team in Northern California. You will conduct independent property tax analysis of moderate to complex files under the direction of management. You may also train new staff on concepts and the specific step-by-step procedures applicable to the tax specialization of each file.

What you will do:

• Analyze files. You will independently prepare analyses ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory filing requirements, and to further analyze potential tax savings opportunities. You will research the tax code, industry, specific assets or jurisdiction requirements. Based on your analysis, you will file appeals on assessments and tax bills as needed.
  

• Prepare and present. You will correspond with clients, assessors, and third-party vendors to coordinate projects, gather further information or explain the methodology. You will provide recommendations to management for the course of action on each file. You will prepare tax returns and related work papers to support the final numbers submitted to jurisdictions.
  

• Network. You will attend industry events and company initiatives, build your reputation as a subject matter expert, and share information and insights.
  

• Nurture client relationships. You will build client relationships and deliver outstanding service, leading to contract renewal, referral, and expansion. You will actively seek ways to apply knowledge, and interpret and anticipate changes in laws, regulations and standards to advise clients on the impact and implications.
  

You will have:

• The education and experience. You have a University degree in Accounting, Finance or a business-related field. You have 3+ years of experience in property tax - personal property or commercial real estate. You have an understanding of property valuation concepts and commercial properties.
  

• The consulting skills. Using Excel, you can consolidate and analyze large, complex data sets and prepare and present reports and recommendations. You can work closely with clients to proactively provide value-added advice and translate tax concepts to clients, elevating their experience with Altus. You are a flexible and effective communicator who can channel insights, clarify ambiguities, and present complex information in a structured and accessible way.
  

• The flexibility. You are available to work as part of a hybrid model, spending a couple of days a week in the office. You are open to traveling nationally to meet with clients as needed.
