The Proposal Engineer is responsible for the development of Makino proposals utilizing both company and outside company products and services, with primary focus on vehicle components, including powertrain and system components. Projects will range from single/standalone machine turnkeys to multi-machine/multi-million-dollar turnkey systems.

What will I be doing?

• Complete turnkey quotations or proposals which will include commercial and technical content of company and non-company products and services.
• Communicate planned machine and process/fixturing requirements with automation proposal team to assist in development of custom automation proposal.
• Furnish all necessary specifications of customer requirements including prints, sketches, or descriptive detail as required to properly process quotation or order.
• Work with other inside company or outside suppliers in the specification of requirements, analysis of response, negotiation of price, terms and conditions for vendor services if required.
• Coordinate work with the sales organization and the business groups for the most effective prioritization of quotation response, then organize work and plan activities to fulfill requirements.
• Schedule calls on actual or prospective customers in response to sales organization requests. Communication with the proposal team and sales organization for details associated with the customer requirements, proposal details and proposal status.
• Arrange for demonstration of product as an aid to the proposal process, as appropriate.
• Support trade shows and customer events requiring machine demonstrations, presentations, and/or informal discussions.
• Attention to company costs and margins of proposed solutions is required.
• Lead internal efforts to challenge proposed solutions which do not meet company margin targets. Proposal status must be continuously updated and communicated to superior and all appropriate parties.

What is required to be able to do this job?

• Comprehensive knowledge of industry processes and practices in competitive environment.
• Working knowledge of machining equipment processes, tooling, work holding devices and material handling process is required to effectively communicate customer proposal details with Makino's application and design engineering staff.
• Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy to deliver proposals in a timely fashion. Communication/presentation skills, both verbal and written are essential.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• 4 Year engineering degree (BS) in related field or 5+ years of related experience.
• 3-5 years' experience in machine tool environment.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience with metal cutting machining/CNC type equipment.
• CAD, CAM and/or solid modeling experience.
• Must have previous experience with large program proposal and be able to construct a machining process plan.
