Prosthetic and Orthotic Certified Assistants are educated and trained to participate in comprehensive orthotic or prosthetic care, while under the supervision of a certified orthotist or prosthetist. Certified assistants may perform orthotic or prosthetic procedures and related tasks in the management of patient care. The initial evaluation and formulation of the treatment plan is the responsibility of the supervising orthotist or prosthetist.
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: At least one year of experience with design and production of prosthetic and orthotic devices or completion of an National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education accredited orthotic-prosthetic assistant education program.
Licensure: BOC certification is typical.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stands on tile over concrete to complete some tasks during each day.
