RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

This position leads, and supervises the weld and machine shop inspection personnel concerned with the quality assurance of industrial processes, materials and products by performing the following duties.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  1. Ensures a safe working environment and that employees are following all required safety and environmental practices and protocols.
  2. Leads, mentors, and fosters a teamwork approach to supervising the inspection work team.
  3. Ensures each employee satisfies all development and training requirements.
  4. Provides work flow / priority guidance and manages personnel issues related to the inspector job classification.
  5. Manages timekeeping and vacation scheduling for inspection work teams
  6. Works closely with operations and production supervisors to ensure customer commitments are met.
  7. Provides communication to inspectors / production personal on customer issues.
  8. Ensures the inspection activities are in compliance with customer requirements and the Quality Management System.
  9. Leads, and participates in work team continuous improvement / kaizen activities.
  10. Works with Quality Engineering and may participate in the review of design, manufacturing, purchasing and test documentation to ensure that the design and customer's requirements can be met on assigned products within the production environment.
  11. Works closely with the Quality Engineers to develop systems and procedures to clarify engineering and quality work instructions and requirements.
  12. Works closely with operations and production supervisor to support inspection of post rework, repair and remanufactured products.
  13. Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
  14. Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management.
  15. Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.
  16. Manages and coordinates Material Review Board activities to resolve quality issues.
  17. Manages and establishes priorities in the gage calibration lab, and CMM inspection area.
  18. Other duties may be assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:


  1. Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent education and experience.
  2. 5 or more years of manufacturing experience in heavy industrial, automotive, aerospace, or metal machining, welding and fabrication.
  3. Proficiency in a Windows operating environment, including email and Microsoft Office software.
  4. Demonstrated planning, problem solving, data analysis, GD&T, blueprint reading, organizing, inter-personal, and communication skills with proven leadership skills and decision making abilities.
  5. Strong knowledge of manufacturing procedures, production methods (including machining and welding), shop standards, team building, SPC and modern quality assurance applications.
  6. Strong knowledge of calibration systems and standards preferred
  7. 6-Sigma and / or Lean training preferred.
