Position Title: Recovery Advocate
Department/Program: Women's Stabilization Services - AS

Reports To: Direct Care Supervisor

Job Summary:

Serving as a member of the program's multidisciplinary team, the Recovery Advocate works to

maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive milieu that is conducive to the patients' treatment

and recovery. The Recovery Advocate adheres to harm reduction and trauma responsive

principles by partnering with patients to facilitate their stabilization and care.

This is a non-exempt position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Essential Functions of Position:

• Works with the multidisciplinary team to support the processes for patients' admission,

transfer, discharge, ongoing observation and care, while ensuring respect and dignity.

• Assists in providing non-professional nursing or other supportive care under the direction

and supervision of professional nurses/counselors.

• Ensures ongoing observation of patients and related reporting of their physical condition,

attitude, reactions, and behaviors.

• Responsible for the movement of patients to/from daily scheduled activities.

• Ensures the cleanliness of the unit and participates in ongoing general unit cleaning

duties.

• Facilitates and promotes patient's participation in wellness and recreational activities.

• Maintains orderly log entries as assigned relative to room checks, patient belongings,

supplies etc.

• Drives patients to appointments or discharge destination in the absence of the driver.

• Adheres to federal and state policies (42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA) and ensures appropriate

releases are obtained to exchange and disclosure necessary client information.

• Maintains proper care and use of program supplies and equipment.

• Participates in staff/supervision meetings and attend related professional development

sessions/trainings.

Requirements for the position:

• High school diploma. Previous experience in substance use disorder and/or mental health

settings.

• Knowledge of the substance use treatment continuum and services and related

community resources preferred.

• Knowledge of harm reduction and trauma responsive care preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with substance use disorders.

• Valid Massachusetts driver's license and good driving record

• A COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement of the position. One COVID-19 shot is

acceptable, contingent on the individual receiving the second shot within the allotted time

frame.

Personal Characteristics:

• Ability to understand and follow the regulations pertaining to confidentiality of client

records and treatment.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment, remain calm under pressure and establish firm

boundaries in order to effectively address client concerns and/or respond to emergencies

as they arise.

• Ability to apply aseptic technique in patient care.

• Ability to adapt and successfully function within a fast-paced service environment with

competing demands.

• Demonstrated organizational skills.

• Strong social, verbal and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated proficiency with utilizing computers and related software (i.e. Microsoft

Office, Google etc.).

Physical Requirements

The employee may regularly be required to sit, stand, use hands, talk, hear, reach with arms,

walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or run. The employee may regularly be

required to move, by pushing, pulling or lifting up to 25 pounds.
