Job DetailsJob Location Oglethorpe University - Atlanta, GAPosition Type Full-Time FacultyEducation Level Master'sJob Category Education Summary/Function:In a collaborative environment, the Reference and Instruction Librarian serves as a twelve-month, non-tenure track, voting faculty member who provides leadership for the librarys delivery of reference and instructional services in support of Oglethorpe Universitys academic programs; is responsible for the continual assessment and development of the librarys electronic presence, including instructional design support; coordinates the selection, licensing, delivery, and troubleshooting of electronic resources; assists with faculty research programs; supports collection development; and provides both processing and reference support of the Universitys archives and special collections. Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinates, plans, and implements reference and instruction services
• Provides reference assistance to members of the Oglethorpe community in a variety of formats
• Evaluates and strengthens the librarys information literacy program
• Provides faculty-requested, course-specific, and generalized library instruction on a variety of topics including use of GALILEO, specialized databases, print and electronic resources, and effective research strategies and evaluating resources
• Collaborates with faculty to develop, design, execute, and assess research assignments and projects to increase student learning
• Designs and develops research guides using Springshare LibGuides platform
• Offers orientations to library services to faculty and students
• Promotes library services and resources to the Oglethorpe community
• Coordinates the selection, licensing, and delivery of electronic resources

• Facilitates consistent and timely access to electronic resources by maintaining and updating links, troubleshooting, and providing user support
• Participates in collection development
• Participates in interdepartmental library duties and projects, including policy development, library planning and improvement, and assessment
• Serves on staff and faculty committees
• Serves as an academic advisor through the COMPASS program
• Develops primary source instruction using the university archives and special collections
• Participates and provides support for campus-wide activities such as Scholarship Weekend, Alumni Weekend, and Commencement
• Teaches for-credit courses, as needed
• Join and be active in local, state, and national library associations and actively research to publish and present
• Complete scholarship in a variety of forms

MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program; experience working in or using reference and instructional services in an academic setting; expertise in the use of electronic resources including evaluation and implementation; ability to create and implement web products; excellent communication and organizational skills; skills in a variety of computer programs, software and web page design. Evening and weekend hours may be required. Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to deal effectively with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population; effective delivery for instruction in and out of classroom settings; ability to work in a team environment; initiate and sustain projects related to the mission of the library; flexibility with duties; represent Oglethorpe University at professional level meetings; interest in professional development and publishing. Work Environment/Physical Demands:The position is in a normal office environment; an alternative work schedule may be required; typically requires sitting at a desk or table and repetitive wrist, hand or finger movement; occasional lifting up to 20 lbs; use of office equipment will also be required.  This job description is intended as a summary of the primary responsibilities of and qualifications for this position.
