Purpose of Position

We are seeking part-time employees to fill the role of research assistant in the Atmospheric Sciences department at the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Science

Duties & Responsibilities
  • The Research Assistant will support our satellite system, satellite ground station, and high-altitude ballooning projects by engaging in associated engineering design, development, and testing activities. Under the supervision of a faculty member conducting the research project, the position is responsible for assisting in a variety of administrative and non-administrative tasks which may include:
    • Managing research efforts,
    • Preparing resources and materials for engineering design, development and testing,
    • Conducting hardware and software tests,
    • Documenting results,
    • And other tasks in support of satellite system, satellite ground station, and high-altitude ballooning project activities.
Required Competencies
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Space Studies, Electrical Engineering, or similar areas of study.
  • Experience with how satellite systems, satellite ground stations, and high-altitude ballooning processes work, including practical experience when working with these systems.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing satellite system, satellite ground station, and high-altitude ballooning activities.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring undergraduate students in satellite system, satellite ground station and high-altitude ballooning activities.
