Department of Biomedical Sciences, Research Assistant Professor, Position #00014505Compensation and Appointment:Position: Research Assistant Professor,Remuneration/Salary: $60,000-$75,000/year; commensurate with qualifications.Position Benefits:Benefits include single or family health care coverage (UND pays the full premium), $12,000 in basic life insurance, employee assistance program, retirement plans with generous employer contributions, and 10 paid holidays.Optional benefits include supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans.UND also offers an employee tuition waiver and a variety of professional development opportunities.Find out more about UND's great benefits and perks here!This position is a twelve (12) month, non-tenure track, special appointment with University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), Department of Biomedical Sciences.Job Summary and Responsibilities:A Research Assistant Professor position is available at the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of North Dakota, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, to study the immune mechanisms required for the maintenance of immune homeostasis at the mucosal surfaces of the intestinal tract. Using a wide range of established animal models, we are trying to understand how immune responses to mucosal pathogens and during Intestinal

inflammation are regulated. Our lab is interested in using state-of-the-art immunology, microbiology, single-cell analysis, molecular biology, and genomic approaches to understand the mechanisms by which immunity/inflammation is regulated at the mucosal surface of the intestine. A multidisciplinary strategy is being used in this study, which includes flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, microbiomics and in-vivo functional studies involving animal models of infection/intestinal inflammation. Candidates are expected to interact with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and students within a larger group of researcher personnel at UND studying mucosal immunology/host-pathogen interactions.

The candidate will perform laboratory-based research in this area including:

Lead research projects and participate in general lab management.

Potential for obtaining extramural funding is encouraged but not required.

Design, implementation, analysis, and interpretation of laboratory experiments.

Supervising and training undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab

Assist principal investigator in grant writing and manuscript preparation.

Assist compliance with animal and safety protocols.

Participate in all additional facets of the research laboratory.

Candidates with considerable postdoctoral fellowship experience in immunology/host pathogen interactions or related fields are encouraged to apply. Prior postdoctoral fellowship experience with any of the following will be an advantage: flow cytometry, animal models of infection/inflammation, microbiomics, and advanced imaging techniques.Minimum Requirements:

Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in immunology, microbiology/parasitology, infection biology or related discipline with a minimum of four years of post-doctoral experience.Considerable research experience (four year in at least one of the following areas: immunology, microbiology, infection microbiology, as demonstrated in your CV.Minimum of three first-author peer-reviewed publications in top-tier immunology journalsSuccessful completion of a criminal history background check

Demonstrated ability to independently complete complex research programs.Proficiency in scientific oral and written communication.Prior considerable experience with flow cytometry.Familiarity with microbiome analysis.Solid knowledge of immunology, primary cell culture, qRT-PCR, RNA/DNA isolation and purification, transcriptome analysis.
