The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia is seeks applicants for a full time postdoctoral researcher to work in the lab of Dr. Bryce Paschal. The primary focus of the laboratory is understanding the nuclear function of poly-ADP-ribosyltransferase (PARP) enzymes, including their utility as therapeutic targets in treatment-resistant prostate cancer. Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.

  • Candidate will perform experiments subject to the PI and his or her requests based on the project and its specific aims.

  • Candidate will meet with PI on a regular basis to discuss research data and decide next steps for conducting experiments.

  • Candidate will present data at lab meetings or potentially at a conference.

  • Candidate will keep accurate records and document data in computational work books.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree by the start date of the appointment.

  • Prior experience in cell culture and biochemistry

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, capable and willing to work both independently and as a team member.

  • Familiarity with RNA-seq and ChIP-seq methods including computational analysis, and use of animal models for the study of cancer disease mechanisms, are all highly desirable
