Research Data Analyst
The Department of International Health, International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) is seeking a Research Data Analyst to support the Zambia Evaluation & Research of 0-Dose (ZER0-D) project and the pilot Center for Accelerating Modeling Utilization and Synthesis (CAMUS). The ZER0-D project aims to explore potential supplemental strategies or combination of strategies to more effectively reach measles under-vaccinated or zero-dose children, and close immunity gaps. CAMUS is a pilot program to build and sustain capacities in applied modeling for public health that have been established or identified during the COVID-19 pandemic and comprises a series of project aimed at these goals.

In the ZER0-D project, this individual will primarily be involved with a School Entry Vaccination project aimed at understanding the feasibility and effectiveness of vaccination at school entry. This person will contribute to modeling the potential effectiveness of school entry as a point of contact with children for identifying and filling vaccination gaps and the implementation of a pilot school entry program to determine the feasibility of using school entry to identify and vaccination measles zero-dose children. As part of the CAMUS program, this person will primarily focus on overarching program and project management, though some research and data management tasks will be involved.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with principal investigators to develop objectives, prepare study materials and conduct preliminary analyses.
  • Prepare electronic data capture system and databases.
  • Prepare protocol and data analysis plan.
  • Data cleaning, exploratory data analysis, and preparation of reports and manuscripts.
  • Project/program coordination.
  • Training and workshop planning.
  • Software development coordination.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • 3 years related experience.
  • Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.*


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree.
  • Extensive experience and/or coursework on data analysis, database development, spatial analyses, or mathematical modeling.
  • Experience with REDCap, electronic data collection programs, or other databases is a plus.
  • Experience working on vaccines, immunization research, or disease surveillance in under-resourced settings is preferred.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Advanced skills with a statistical program (Stata, SAS, R) is a must.
  • Must demonstrate excellent organizational ability, attention to detail and knowledge of research processes (IRB submission, research ethics).
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office software applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team.

Starting Salary Range: $45,650 - $62,850 annually (commensurate with experience)

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
