Job Title: Post-doctoral Research Fellow. Position is currently recruiting.

Employing Department and Institution: Center for Regenerative Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital.

Postdoctoral fellow positions are available in the Laboratory of Dr. Sundari Chetty at the Center for Regenerative Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in affiliation with the Psychiatry department at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Chetty started her lab in 2016 at Stanford University in the department of Psychiatry and the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine. Her lab is currently transitioning to MGH and Harvard Medical School. The overarching goal of the Chetty lab is to understand the mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia, and identify novel therapeutic targets based on these mechanistic insights. In particular, the lab has been investigating the mechanisms underlying brain overgrowth or undergrowth in these disorders using human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) technology. Changes in brain size often precede clinical symptoms, suggesting that understanding the underlying mechanisms regulating brain overgrowth or undergrowth could provide a window of opportunity for intervention or mitigation of symptoms. Using hiPSCs from idiopathic patients as well as those with known genetic variations, the Chetty lab generates iPSC-derived cortical neural and oligodendroglial cells to investigate changes at the cellular, functional, and mechanistic levels using a broad range of techniques from RNA sequencing, genome editing, to functional assays in in vitro and in vivo models. In recent work, the lab has been investigating how changes in phagocytosis by microglia regulate brain overgrowth in autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Postdoctoral positions are available in several areas of basic biology and computational biology, including stem cell biology, neurobiology, developmental biology, neuroimmunology, genetics, computational biology/bioinformatics, and genomics.

The postdoctoral fellow will join a collaborative group of scientists and work in an open format laboratory space that fosters interactions with other researchers at the Center. The position will also involve collaborations with other labs at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute working on related questions.

Minimum degree and field of knowledge: PhD or MD in neurobiology, stem cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or related field required with a strong publication record in these areas. Ideal candidates would have extensive experience working with stem cells (including 2D or organoid models) and mouse models as well as expertise in the use of fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and molecular biology (RT-PCR, cloning, immunoprecipitation, western blotting). Expertise in genome editing (CRISPR-Cas9), epigenetics, and high throughput sequencing (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, DNA methylation, RNA-seq) would be very valuable. Candidates with expertise in neuroimmunology also encouraged to apply.

This opening is an ideal opportunity for recent PhD or MD graduates interested in a career in biomedical research and/or medicine. Interested candidates should submit a CV, a brief statement of current and future career goals and contact information for three references.
