We have immediate openings for NIH-funded postdoctoral positions in Indzhykulian Lab at Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School. We study hair cell mechanotransduction and stereocilia bundle morphology in mouse models of deafness and vestibular dysfunction. Our primary aims include better understanding hair cell function, disfunction and physiology, as well as developing successful translational gene therapy strategies to treat Usher Syndrome. We also develop and utilize machine-learning-based techniques for analysis of imaging data. Our projects utilize a combination of standard molecular biology techniques, various fluorescence imaging techniques, single-cell electrophysiology, mouse genetics, as well as an exhaustive line of electron microscopy techniques (SEM, TEM, FIB-SEM).

Our laboratory is part of a large and collaborative group of scientists and clinicians affiliated with Eaton Peabody Laboratories (EPL) at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, department of clinical otolaryngology, Harvard Medical School. The EPL is the largest hearing research group in the United States, providing an outstanding interdisciplinary training environment within an active clinical setting. We have close relationships and major collaborative efforts with a number of groups within the Harvard community, as well as international collaborations. We are looking for ambitious candidates who will enjoy the excitement of working at a premier research institution, are eager to work with and learn more about hair cells, and want to become a part of a laboratory studying important questions in the field of auditory neuroscience, deafness and gene therapy. Candidates should have Ph.D. in neuroscience, bioengineering, biochemistry, physics or a related discipline. Prior experience in techniques including patch-clamp electrophysiology, tissue/organ culture, gene therapy, light and electron microscopy, biochemistry and protein purification/protein interaction are preferred.

Qualifications
