PRIMARY FUNCTION
Provide academic, research and outreach expertise for activities conducted at the Energy Farm as part of the Crop Sciences Research and Education Center (CSREC)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate research relationship between faculty project directors and the CSREC staff, including processing
    work orders, working with other staff members to determine project responsibilities and schedules, and implementing work orders for field crops and other crops as time permits.
  • Interpret researcher work orders to determine most appropriate implementation approach. Interpret research specifications and provide precise calibrations to equipment to align with scientific objectives.
  • Apply best practices in record keeping of operational activities within the CSRES database, including records
    of pesticide applications to maintain compliance with federally mandated Worker Protection Standards and records of research requirements of transgenic crops required by USDA APHIS to maintain compliance.
  • Manage and operate specialized research and field equipment equipped with precision agriculture technology.
  • Supervise hourly employees by creating work schedules, assigning work detail and overseeing quality of work based upon defined research objectives.
  • Manage and maintain mandatory safety compliance for all employees and visitors at CSREC including field and equipment hazard safety training.
  • Assume additional related responsibilities as needed to enhance the mission of the unit. This includes working to establish a welcoming and supportive culture that embraces diverse individual identities, fosters a culture of inclusion, and promotes equity in standards, behaviors, policies and practices.
EDUCATION

Required: BS in Crop Sciences, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Precision Agriculture or related discipline
Preferred: MS in Crop Sciences, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Precision Agriculture or related discipline

EXPERIENCE
Required:

At least 1 years of experience in a biofuels, forage, or row crop research environment.
At least 1 years' experience operating specialized field research equipment.
Preferred:
At least 3 years of experience in a biofuels, forage, or row crop research environment.
Supervisory experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
  • Proficiency in the use of software applications (e.g., MyJohnDeere, SMS, ESRI, etc.) enabling development of equipment and input prescriptions for precision farming, remote coordination of research equipment and operators, and spatially referenced data acquisition and aggregation.
  • Operation of field research specific planting and harvesting equipment.
  • Small Equipment maintenance, agricultural equipment maintenance, and/or general mechanical aptitude in support of the operational requirements of an agricultural research organization.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a 12-month, 100%-time academic professional position. The minimum salary for this entry level position is $50,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
