The Department of Public Health Sciences in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia is seeking strong applicants for a new Research Specialist Intermediate to assist with the planning and conduct of community-engaged clinical and population science research that focuses on health disparities, behavioral risk factors, and use of mobile health technologies for both assessment and intervention. Current projects include developing and testing of mobile health programs across a range of behaviors, including alcohol and tobacco for youth and adults, as well as specific populations, such as cancer survivors.

The Research Specialist Intermediate will work with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Kara Wiseman, to help ensure successful completion of various research projects, coordinating with collaborators at the University of Virginia and in the community.

The Research Specialist Intermediate duties include:

  • Helping with research-related administrative tasks.

  • Assisting and oversight of vendor payments, management of grant budgets.

  • Coordinating/assisting with the execution of clinical trials.

  • Assisting with development and implementation of new processes and protocols.

  • May also include some participant recruitment and data collection.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3 years of relevant experience. Master's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Able to ensure tasks are completed well and on time.

  • Being able to oversee the work of others.

  • Experience with behavioral intervention research, specifically identifying, recruiting, and retaining patients in behavioral research as well as in participant data collection.

  • Capacity to work independently and effectively.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Detail orientation for thorough and accurate record keeping and reporting.

  • Ability to use good judgment in daily tasks.

  • Proficiency with computer software, including word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Proficiency in SAS and conducting simple statistical analyses.

Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance .
