GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to work on advanced technology development projects at the intersection of liquid biopsy, exosome biology and RNA modifications. The ideal candidate has a strong passion for research and is interested in pursuing an MD/PhD program. Previous experience with droplet digital PCR, sequencing and/or data analysis is highly desired but not required. In this role you will participate in cutting edge research and learn a range of novel technologies being developed in the lab and interact with a highly skilled team of researchers, clinicians, students and staff. You will work with minimal supervision and report to the PI during one-to-one meetings as well as during weekly lab meetings. You will be required to perform literature search to determine optimized methods or establish best practices for new protocols/methods. You will be presenting your work at local and national meetings and assist preparing figures and manuscripts. A two-year commitment is strongly preferred.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs Duties of Research Technician II:

  • Literature search of studies relevant to the projects
  • Executes protocols of non-routine experiments.
  • Assists PI with determining the most suitable methodology.
  • Performs basic design and modification of protocols.
  • Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data.
  • Prepares and presents reports.
  • Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data.
  • Organizes and summarizes acquired data, using scientific and statistical techniques.
  • Organizes and/or drafts material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, or other documents for publication and/or presentation
  • Participates in the design of experiments or field work.
  • Ordering reagents/supplies for the lab
  • Maintain an organized lab and clean order list and supplies available in the lab
  • Other duties as assigned
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to interpret acceptability of data results
  • Working knowledge of data management programs
  • High Degree of computer literacy
  • Demonstrated competence in research techniques and methodologies.
  • Competence and knowledge in several laboratory methods including molecular biology, protein chemistry, immunohistochemistry and biochemistry.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member with other lab members (fellows, students, etc.) with good judgment, organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage laboratory inventory and records.
  • Ability to problem-solve, utilizing analytical skills and technical knowledge.
  • Ability to appropriately use data management programs.
  • Ability and willingness to work safely with/be exposed to hazardous materials such as radioactive materials, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals.
  • Ability to sustain working long stretches of time at desk, computer, or lab bench.
  • Ability to lift and install equipment such as centrifuge rotors for certain experiments
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Good math skills, library skills, documentation techniques, time management, and organizational techniques in routine duties.


Qualifications
EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree required with a major in one of the Biological Sciences.

Lab-based coursework is strongly preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 1 year of directly related experience

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

May serve as team leader to lab assistants and Research Technician I.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties will be performed in a research laboratory.

Work will be conducted over a forty-hour workweek, but actual schedule can be flexible.
