NASCAR Event Management seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Safety Systems Managerbased in our Concord, North Carolina office.

The primary responsibilities for this position are to manage the vehicle safety systems electronic equipment, assist with at-track post-crash data processing, provide technical assistance for safety-related research projects and serve as the at-track liaison for the NASCAR safety engineering group.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the vehicle safety systems electronic equipment including crash data recorders, onboard high speed cameras and various cockpit sensors. This includes being responsible for system troubleshooting, maintenance, and software and firmware updates.
  • Analyze data from the vehicle safety systems to discern abnormalities and root causes and develop and implement recommendations for improvements.
  • Provide technical assistance with electronic equipment downloads and uploads to NASCAR Officials during at-track post-crash vehicle investigations and crash reporting.
  • Conduct safety electronic equipment physical, software and firmware maintenance, updates, and repairs.
  • Assist NASCAR safety with the development of annual system improvements by applying field knowledge and expertise.
  • Communicate system issues and change requests to appropriate NASCAR departments, teams and safety electronic equipment manufacturers.
  • Coordinate and conduct annual year end electronic equipment recalibrations and maintenance.
  • Visit competitors race shops when requested to provide consultation regarding troubleshooting wiring harness or other safety electronic equipment issues.
  • As necessary, visit equipment/parts manufactures when requested to provide consultation regarding issue resolutions.
  • Responsible for communicating all safety electronic equipment issues, conflicts, procedure changes, etc. to NASCAR Safety Engineering and Series Directors, or Technical Managers.
  • Evaluate and recommend procedural improvements for pre-race, post-race and post-crash electronic safety equipment logistics and processing.
  • Handle complex issues appropriately in garage and pit areas and oversee various surveys or inspections as requested by NASCAR Safety Engineering.
Approximate travel 90%.

Required skills / experience:
  • Employees designated as a Safety Equipment Technician must reside within a reasonable driving distance of the NASCAR R&D Center in Concord, NC to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior NASCAR experience is a preferred.
  • Proficient on Company provided hardware and software, email, Internet, FTP usage, etc. Must be able to use current Microsoft Operating Systems. Proficiency with computers and software is required. Basic familiarity with in-car wiring harnesses, electronics, data acquisition, sensors, etc. is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
