Position Overview

Tilcon Connecticut has an opening for a Scale Operator to work at our Newington location. Site responsibilities include processing accurate stone and asphalt transactions, coordination of trucking between jobs and plants, report preparation and customer service. This position requires flexibility, attention to detail, reliability, and a positive service attitude. Required interactions are internally with the Sales, Trucking, Billing, and Credit departments, and externally with customers, truckers, and vendors. The selected candidate will be required to work in a team environment a well as solo. Our core values are safety, quality, and integrity in everything we do. The Scale Operator will report directly to the Point-of-Sale Manager and will comply with mandatory safety requirements and other functions of the team.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Weighing of trucks, produce accurate transactions on a timely basis of construction materials according to State laws and Company business rules.
  • Maintain accurate files in the point-of-sale system on customers, jobs, products, trucking, and haul rates.
  • Process customer telephone orders and schedule deliveries for construction materials.
  • Produce and report daily cash transactions accurately.
  • Report product and cash sales daily and inventory monthly.
  • Answer telephones in a professional manner; convey messages.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional attitude when dealing with co-workers and the general public.
  • Familiarize customers and truck drivers with traffic patterns and safety requirements of the site.
  • Be prompt and available for early or late workday schedules on short notice, and for an occasional Saturday during the summer and fall months.
  • Vacation time limited to December thru April.

Education/Experience
  • High school education or equivalent
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Must have good verbal and organizational skills.
  • Math Competency is required.
  • Ability to obtain a State of Connecticut Public Weigher's License.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, previous retail, and customer service experience a plus
