We are seeking a Scientific Program Manager to support the National Institutes of Health's (NIH), world renowned National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance and scientific expertise to support research and development initiatives.
  • Serve as a key liaison between various departments and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the VRC's scientific objectives and priorities.
  • Provide scientific advice and strategic insights to the Director and Senior Leadership team on matters related to basic and translational research, product development, and emergency response activities.
  • Collaborate closely with VRC scientists and translational research program staff to integrate scientific knowledge into VRC Leadership planning, process development, decision-making, and
    execution.
  • Evaluate scientific literature, data, and emerging trends to inform decision-making processes and identify opportunities for innovation and advancement.
  • Provide guidance to staff and cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and continued innovation. Interface with Sr. Scientific staff to facilitate changing aspects of VRC's R&D programs.
  • Assist in supporting scientific conferences, meetings with collaborators within academic institutions.
  • Anticipate and mitigate risks and challenges associated with R&D programs, proposing innovative solutions and internal management controls to overcome obstacles and drive program success.
  • Stay current on relevant HHS guidelines and requirements to support the Director in related queries.


Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 10 years of experience in R&D, translational science, product development, ClinOps, and/or regulatory support.
  • Proven track record of leadership and achievement, with a deep understanding of drug discovery and development processes.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across diverse teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to develop staff and foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Prior experience in providing strategic advice and support to senior management.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, with a passion for driving scientific innovation.
