XPS Scientist

EAG Laboratories is looking for a Scientist who will work in the Surface Science group and be responsible for operating analytical XPS/ESCA instrumentation (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy/ Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis). This position requires a solid technical foundation in materials science and/or analytical chemistry.

Use of information in this role is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All accepted applicants must be U.S. Persons as defined by ITAR: a U.S. Person is a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Employee Responsibilities:

Duties include, but are not limited to, loading and running XPS instruments, processing data, writing reports, communicating and meeting with customers, conducting supervised R&D, and basic instrument maintenance activities.

Developing analytical protocols, interpreting spectra, writing reports and communicating information with clients.

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

The Ideal Candidate would possess:

Education and Experience:

  • MS or PhD degree in Chemistry with 1 or more years of industrial experience preferred .
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
  • Design analytical protocols with minimal assistance from management and/or experienced scientists.
  • Demonstrate competency with laboratory work and use of analytical instrumentation
  • Interpret XPS analytical data and apply understanding of the data to solve the specific problems
  • Knowledge/experience in other surface analysis techniques is a strong plus, e.g. TOF-SIMS (Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry), Auger Electron Spectroscopy
  • Write scientific reports that includes conclusions, methodology, and supporting analytical data
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with firm deadlines
  • Maintain analytical instrumentation and troubleshoot problems when necessary
  • Write standard operating procedures and demonstrate the ability to follow procedures
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Able to communicate constructively with other scientists, managers and customers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Including Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
