Job Summary:

ZOLL is recruiting for a Security Director to be based out of its Chelmsford, Massachusetts HQ location reporting to the corporation's C-level executive for security functions. The mission of this director-level position is to develop, collaborate to build, and lead a holistic physical security program using the latest converged technologies that will scale as we continue to grow. The successful candidate will bring a balance of past experience and innovative problem-solving capabilities to create a best value approach to protecting our people and assets while maintaining a safe, friendly place to work. Our Security Director will employ a likelihood-based view towards risk reduction and evaluate our newly purchased technology for scalability and efficacy. This role will take a processes, people, and technology approach to improving the security culture at ZOLL.

The successful candidate will work to understand business processes by collaborating with local leaders and stakeholders. Leveraging these relationships, the successful candidate will be able to lead a corporate-wide, cohesive security program. This position will grow and manage a team formed around the five main principals of physical security practices and cyber-physical systems (networked and integrated interoperable IoT devices like readers, cameras, storage, and the systems that manage them). This position will be collaborating with and guiding the ZOLL Security Council made up of leaders in local business operations, Facilities, HR, IT Networking and Identity, Technology Risk, and Compliance.

Essential Functions:

  • Starting with ZOLL HQ based in Chelmsford, MA, build and lead a corporate physical security program that will scale eventually across our differing U.S. locations.
  • Create a network of ZOLL security liaisons at all ZOLL locations.
  • Establish a long-term vision, direction, and roadmap for corporate security that encompasses a hybrid work environment with a distributed and modestly growing employee base.
  • Act as the primary subject matter expert in physical security who manages the development, implementation, and continuous refinement of physical security policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Partner on design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of physical security technology to secure facilities, physical access to the network, occupants, and associated business operations. Run pilots as appropriate to assess if new technologies and services are worthy of longer-term investment.
  • Work with the Technology Risk and Compliance teams on developing and implementing physical security controls as it relates to various compliance requirements including but not limited to HIPAA, FedRAMP, ISO 27001 and SOC2; and support internal and external audits of physical security controls.
  • Must be expert at assessing a vibrant, complex environment that has potentially multiple possible correct paths and reduce the most amount of risk in the least amount of time.
  • Drawing upon knowledge and experience in a variety of disciplines, this director ensures all applicable compliance and regulatory requirements are properly achieved, operational standards are met, and maintains a secure and safe working environment.
  • Communicates effectively to all levels in the organization, both verbally and in writing. Work requires considerable professional judgment in carrying out objectives.
  • Regularly creates and reports on security metrics and key performance indicators (KPSs), making recommendations based on analysis and bench marks.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with local, state, and federal agencies and coordinates safety/security activities.
  • Manages intelligence gathering as it relates to understanding, identifying, and addressing any threats against the company.
  • Represent Physical Security interests in resiliency and crisis management efforts, including planning and response.
  • Provides input to company initiatives; promptly assists in resolution of legal, financial, human resources, and administrative issues relating to security.
  • Development and growth of the ZOLL security and emergency response strategy and procedures.
    • Investigate, document, and be able to escalate to executive council members any reported concerns or actual incidents surrounding safety and security.
    • Partners with stake holders in designing facility renovation/construction projects to ensure compliance with overall security strategy.
    • Plays a central role in the development and updating of the company's business continuity and business recovery plans.
    • Manages and leads security members including hiring, advising, evaluating, training and mentoring including third party security personnel maintaining 24/7/365 coverage.
    • Develops and educates ZOLL employees on physical security policies and standards to instill a culture of security and awareness.
    • Monitor expenses & review financial reports as well as prepare budgets for security operations & capital security improvements.
    • Leads coordination efforts and personnel who troubleshoot and repair of existing security system infrastructure and hardware.

Skills Requirements:
  • Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification, equivalent, or broad security program leadership experience required.
  • Requires a minimum of 10 years working in corporate security or an equivalent combination of education and corporate security experience with at least 5 of those years being in a managerial/leadership role.
  • This position further requires an approachable disposition, emotional intelligence and being a genuine relationship builder and innovative problem solver.
  • Experience designing or operating converged physical security systems in conjunction with IT/Cyber security best practices a must.
  • Strong business and interpersonal skills. The ability to analyze, understand, and explain the value proposition of security initiatives to the executive leadership team.
  • Demonstrated skills in team leadership and strategic planning.
  • Ability to see the big picture as well as strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop, forecast and manage operating and project budgets.
  • Analytical skills for the collation of data and the production of security statistics as applied in a corporate setting.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple large-scale physical security projects with an emphasis on physical security strategy, technology design, processes, and operations.
  • Familiarity with IT networking principals, cybersecurity risks, and collaboration requirements associated with integrating, deploying, and maintaining systems at scale.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Criminal Justice, or a computer/technology-related field. An equivalent combination of education, military, law enforcement, or other related security or security technology fields is also considered qualified.
  • Familiarity with more than one variety of access control system, IP camera, video management and storage systems a plus.
  • Experience using project management platforms highly desired, PMP or other project management certifications a plus.
  • Any IT certifications or IT security experience a plus.
  • Experience with an enterprise, integrated access control, alarm, and video management system.
  • Excellent program management skills or certifications showing the ability to combine people, processes and technology to deliver a KPI-based program.
  • Ability to prudently leverage certifications such as Active Shooter Training, Conflict Management, De-escalation training to educate the workforce and develop essential targeted training.
