SUMMARY:

The Senior Assistant/Assistant Director of Admission directly manages the development, creation, and execution of all admission print materials and admission website strategy and content. The role includes significant copywriting across integrated marketing channels, including collaboration on strategy and content for electronic correspondence and other marketing collateral. As an integral member of the Office of Admission, the Senior Assistant/Assistant Director of Admission is also responsible for contributing to the overall recruitment, selection, and enrollment of an academically superior and diverse class each year. The Senior Assistant/Assistant Director manages a geographical region of prospective students and families, plans, implements and evaluates major admission activities and programs, and represents the University to a wide and diverse audience to influence college choice decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communications

Significantly contribute to the strategic development of an integrated student recruitment and communication plan for 200,000 prospects, 70,000 inquiries, and 14,000 applicants annually simultaneously for three enrollment cycles, including the creation of key and distinct branding messages, the timing and sequence of those messages, and what communication vehicles will most effectively influence college choice.

Plan, implement, and serve as the creative lead for all recruitment, applicant, and yield print materials, including all major publications.

Produce brand-aligned content as a primary copywriter for the office, contributing to content across channels including print, web, video, electronic correspondence, and other media.

Lead office liaison for the creative development and execution of all publications with University Communications and associated third-party vendors.

Manage all admission web content and approve web changes via Cascade to coincide with the admission calendar year and effectively meet the web technology needs for all recruiting and yield activities.

Serve as the primary liaison with the Web Development team in University Communications and the Web team in Information Services to strategize functional redesigns to the admission website and coordinate updates to other University sites as it impacts admission recruitment, application, and yield processes.

Assist with the managing of the Communication budget indices; prepare and monitor budgets, reconcile expenditures, and research and develop program improvement requests related to project responsibilities.

Assist with the annual development and implementation of the office's strategic marketing and communication plan.

Serve as standing member in Enrollment Management Marketing Committee and other campus-wide committees or working groups.

Liaises with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to verify admission data and complete surveys to ensure accurate information about the University is distributed to on- and off- campus audiences.

Manage and direct multi-day photo shoots with a variety of local and national photographers and the university videographer. Ensure that the photos and videos capture all aspects of the University to accurately depict the institution in admission communications.

Assist with Student Search planning, development, and execution, including creative input on marketing messages and involvement in discussions about Student Search name purchases.

Manage coverage of Admission office telephones and general admission email inboxes, including direct supervision of full-time and temporary phone staff.

Prospect Management

Research the regional geo-market using national and institutional data to determine the recruitment goals for the region. Perform statistical analysis to project growth, decline, and yield in market as it relates to student mobility, academic quality and diversity.

Establish short and long-range prospect management goals and action plans for the region. Develop and implement strategies and tactics to identify and expand the potential numbers and types of top prospects in the region.

Interview and counsel students individually and in small groups to determine the students' educational interests and needs and align those interests and needs with the features and strengths of the University.

Create and program queries, reports and documents in Slate to facilitate recruitment activities and assess the effectiveness of recruitment activities. Compile year-end reports for regional prospect management, recruitment activities, and project responsibilities.

General Recruitment and Admission Responsibilities

Significantly contribute to planning sessions by infusing perspective, experience and opinions that will direct strategic project decisions. As a result of planning sessions, create and implement new admission initiatives which support major project responsibilities.

Cultivate and sustain a "directive counseling" relationship with secondary school college counselors, independent counselors, advising organizations and partnership groups which serve under represented populations with the goal of encouraging top prospects to consider Richmond as a first choice.

Review in a holistic manner the academic and personal qualifications of candidates and prepare the application for presentation to the Admission Committee or Richmond Scholars Committee.

Determine decisions of deny, wait list, accept, and scholarship consideration; decisions are made independently or in cooperation with other colleagues in Admission Committee. Lead an Admission Committee and contribute to the strategic shaping of the class to meet institutional goals.

Serve as External Affairs Officer representing the University to a wide and diverse audience at college fairs, high schools, information sessions, interviews, and regional receptions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A thorough understanding of and appreciation for the selective, private college admission process, the strengths of an undergraduate liberal arts experience, and the value of inclusive diversity.
  • Persuasive oral communication skills, including excellent public speaking skills; strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of professionals.
  • Highly self-motivated and independent critical thinker and worker.
  • Advanced problem-solving capabilities, creativity, and strong work ethic.
  • Solid familiarity with Admission software tools, like Slate and Banner.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, supervise, train and develop staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently coupled with excellent organizational and delegation skills.
  • Experience managing highly sensitive and confidential data and documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various internal and external constituencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud a plus
  • Ability to reconcile budgets.
  • Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • A bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred
  • At least 4 years of professional experience working in college admission, including responsibilities for communications and marketing OR at least 4 years of experience in marketing and/or creative development.

WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week

SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 6 (Hiring Range $43,383.00 to $57,468.00 annually)
