ABOUT THE JOB
The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Senior Campaign Strategist in the Democracy Division of the National Political Advocacy Department, based in the ACLU's National offices in either Washington, D.C. or New York City.

The National Political Advocacy Department (NPAD) works to strengthen the efforts of the ACLU at the federal, state, and local levels of government. The department harnesses the political power that comes from having more than eight million members and supporters, as well as affiliates in every state. By organizing grassroots lobbying and issue campaigns using modern tactics, the ACLU seeks to achieve change as profound in the legislative, administrative and electoral arenas as it has accomplished through the courts.amp;nbsp;

Reporting to aamp;nbsp;Deputy Director ofamp;nbsp;theamp;nbsp;Democracy Division, theamp;nbsp;Senior Campaign Strategistamp;nbsp;will work with national staff and ACLU affiliates to design, build, lead, and execute campaigns directed at advancing civil liberties and civil rights by reaching specific political/policy outcomes in voting rights and other issueamp;nbsp;areasamp;nbsp;covered by the Democracy Division.amp;nbsp;amp;nbsp;In the near term, the Senior Campaign Strategist will help drive programmatic work related to expanding access to automatic voter registration, vote-by-mail, and other voting modernizations; reforming the Electoral College system; ensuring the protection of communities of color in the upcoming redistricting process; and furthering efforts connected to federal legislation and federal administrative action to protect and advance voting rights.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and lead complex, multi-tooled campaigns from planning to execution
  • Spearhead the development of robust campaign goals, plans, strategies, tactics, and budgets to achieve outcomes on specific issue areas
  • Lead legislative campaigns, electoral campaigns, administrative campaigns, and/or corporate campaigns, with minimal need for management level guidance
  • Utilize a wide variety of sophisticated campaign tactics and tools
  • Successfully employ constituent targeting, developing advertisements (TV, radio, print), polling, and developing creative campaign tactics for earned media or other purposes
  • Retain and manage consultants
  • Work closely with the organizing division on developing field plans for relevant campaigns
  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the staff working on the campaigns
  • Work in coordination with other senior stakeholders, affiliate staff, and national staff, including policy staff within the political advocacy department
  • Develop strategic partnerships that expand the ACLU's influence in ways the ACLU would otherwise not have operating alone
  • Convene and execute on-the-ground meetings, planning, and campaign events in priority jurisdictions
  • Exercise significant independent judgment to solve problems and determine creative solutions
  • Engage in other leadership and management duties as assigned
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE amp;amp; QUALIFICATIONS
  • Significant experience with issue advocacy and/or electoral campaigning at the federal, state, and/or local levels, including campaign management experience
  • Significant experience designing campaign strategy and executing campaign plans and tactics
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Experience building, leading, and working within coalitions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, simultaneously handle many tasks; work efficiently, meeting multiple deadlines, while remaining composed under pressure
  • Experience doing advocacy on both issue campaigns and electoral campaigns, a plus
  • Experience doing legislative and administrative advocacy, a plus
  • Experience doing grassroots organizing, a plus
  • Fluency, expertise and experience in multiple ACLU issue areas, particularly on voting rights and elections, a plus
  • Comfort with policy--particularly on voting rights and elections--and an ability to efficiently and effectively weave policy objectives into campaign execution
  • Willingness to travel
COMPENSATION
The annual salary for this position is $135,795 (Level E). This salary is reflective of a position based inamp;nbsp; New York, NY. This salary will be subject to a locality adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting. Note that most of the salaries listed on our job postings reflect New York, NY salaries, where our National offices are headquartered.
