Job Info

A career with MilliporeSigma is an ongoing journey of discovery: our 58,000 people are shaping how the world lives, works and plays through next generation advancements in Healthcare, Life Science and Electronics. For more than 350 years and across the world we have passionately pursued our curiosity to find novel and vibrant ways of enhancing the lives of others. MilliporeSigma is a business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.

Your Role:

As the Senior Data Engineer, you are responsible for the design, development, and operations of different ingestion pipelines leading into the group-wide data lake. Within the newly established Millipore Sigma Data Office you report directly to the Global Head of Data & Analytics Architecture and work closely with the business, the Architecture and Engineer teams on delivering value through data & analytics.

Your focus is on implementing and operating data feeds, create pipelines from existing data source systems and aggregators, and facilitate connectivity of data between both external and internal data sources. Ingestion will happen from a rich enterprise landscape of technologies both on-premise and in the cloud into a cloud-based (mostly AWS and Palantir Foundry) technology stack for data & analytics. You are responsible to shape our engineering best practices around DataOps for finding innovative, fast, and sustainable solutions while ensuring compliance to regulations (e.g. GxP), scalability, and uptime in our distributed, cloud-based environments.

You will work closely with other Data Engineers in different distributed teams to ingest data that is relevant for the business to drive analytics (e.g. AI & ML) use cases. In this distributed setting you establish best practices around how we operate and test our data pipelines with a focus on the cloud-native data & analytics technology stack.

In summary, you act as the Senior Data Engineer for the delivery and operations of data pipelines into our cloud-native technology stack. Working closely with the business and IT, you drive a fast and agile design and delivery cycle informing and influencing Millipore Sigma's reference architecture through feedback based on your first-hand experience.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Experience working with data technologies on the cloud (e. g. EMR, Redshift, S3, Glue, Kinesis and Lambda for serverless ETL).
  • Experience in data ingestion, data cleaning, data management & maintenance (curating and refreshing).
  • Experience with schema design and data modeling.
  • Understand the landscape of technologies and services required from ingesting, storing, and manipulating data to building advanced analytics, and have in-depth experience and potentially relevant certification with services of major cloud platforms (ideally AWS).
  • Experienced with version control (git), automated testing, continuous integration, and deployment (also including Continuous Deployment for Machine Learning / CD4ML).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a regulated environment (GxP) is a plus.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders.
  • Team oriented and share best practices.
