YETI is looking for a highly collaborative Sr. Director, External Communications, to oversee all proactive and reactive public relations and social media campaigns and initiatives. This person will own and develop all communications materials and strategies that support the following: proactive brand and company initiatives and campaigns; issues and crises; executive media opportunities and inquiries; and emerging trends around the business, the outdoor industry and consumer interests and trends.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop measurable proactive and reactive external communications strategies in collaboration with cross functional internal and external partners, including Social, PR, Brand, Creative, Legal, Product, Content, ESG, HR, and IR.
  • Create communications plans that support company and business goals but also protect the reputation of the brand.
  • Manage approvals for all external communications requests from leadership, including speaking opportunities, trade show presentations and panels.
  • Act as a key counselor to senior leadership for all external executive positioning.
  • Track and provide recommendations to leadership around emerging trends, potential industry issues and/or brand reputation risks, developing reactive action plans and responses as needed.
  • Oversee all US external communications agencies and collaborate with/serve as consultant to all international external communications agencies.
  • Coordinate all post earnings media opportunities for the CEO and CFO (as requested).
  • Partner regularly with VP, Investor Relations, providing relevant updates related to key marketing initiatives and external communications priorities.
  • Serve as lead external communications consultant and point person for all reputational issues or crises that impact the business, including those across CEG (customer service), HR, Sales, IR, eCommerce, Operations, Product and Supply Chain.
  • Develop all issues and crisis-related communications in partnership with Legal, CEG, HR, and PS&C teams and external agency partners.
  • Ensure company's crisis communications protocols are updated, consistent and shared appropriately.
  • Coordinate regular crisis tabletop exercises with key members of YETI leadership.
  • Function as a strong leader and mentor for team members at all levels in career development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in PR or Communications-related field.
  • At least 12+ years in external or marketing communications, in-house experience required, and agency experience preferred, with 7+ years management experience.
  • Keen sense of urgency, ability to be nimble, work well under pressure and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Exceptional media relations skills and savvy with examples of key national press results.
  • Strong familiarity with both established and emerging social media platforms, measurement tools and trends.
  • Previous experience managing brand issues or crises across both PR and social media channels.
  • Experience executing and managing multi-channel campaign launches.
  • Highly collaborative team player with outstanding judgment in decision-making who can manage and work across multiple teams and functions.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and executive presence in interactions, negotiations, and communications, with proven experience in counseling and influencing senior executives.
  • Strong oral, written, and group communication skills.
  • Organized, adept at planning, and exercises a high attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with experience succeeding in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent leadership, supervisory, and management/development skills.
  • Ability to foster a supportive and collaborative culture.
  • This position is based in Austin, TX at our headquarters office off Southwest Parkway. Must be willing to work onsite minimum of 3 days each week.
