Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Senior Electrical (Facilities Design) Engineer to join our dynamic and growing team in Orlando, FL.

Work Location :

Orlando preferred; however, Miami may be considered for the right candidate

The position requires experience providing professional & technical direction on building/facilities engineering and construction. Our ideal candidate will specialize in full life-cycle design/engineering of electrical systems in multi-discipline projects from the time of assignment to commissioning, close-out, and turnover to client.

Other relevant experience includes asset lifecycle planning, facility standards, maintenance & repairs, capital projects and building assessments to identify defects and their repair needs and/or advise on ways of improving and maintaining electrical systems. Experience with feasibility studies, supporting construction projects, design co-ordination, estimating, tendering works, budget control and construction monitoring is required.

Types of buildings worked with include, but not limited to, offices, industrial units, schools, colleges, hotels, pharmaceutical facilities, product assembly facilities, laboratories, and manufacturing centers.

Must possess knowledge of construction processes, engineering and design application and building/infrastructure component assembly. The ideal candidate would also have process knowledge of industrial facilities equipment and application of design requirements to meet required outcomes of the client.

  • Motor Control Centers
  • Emergency & Standby Power Generators
  • Medium & Low Voltage Power Distribution Systems
    • Short Circuit Analysis
    • Overcurrent Protection Sizing, Selection & Coordination
    • Load Flow Analysis
    • Arc Flash Analysis
    • System Grounding & Earthing
  • Lighting System Design and Analysis
  • Low Voltage, Communications and DDC Control Systems


Key Responsibilities :
  • Execution and supervision of projects involving the design of complex electrical engineering systems and/or projects
  • Preparation of electrical engineering assessments, plans and studies
  • Proficiency at technically reviewing work output of junior staff and colleagues for coaching, mentoring and quality assurance/control purposes
  • Develops, directs and supervises technical assignments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, but not limited to, the National Electrical Code® as well as applicable local and federal standards and codes
  • Demonstrated ability to interface well with other engineering disciplines
  • Maintains effective client relations
  • Identifies and defines scope, technique, price and schedule
  • Prepares, directs and reviews cost estimates
  • Recognizes and initiates business development opportunities
  • Prepares proposals with limited supervision and leads preparation of large-scale proposal
  • Developing long-range electrical engineering growth strategy for Wood Florida
  • Designing electrical systems of different sizes and level of complexity for Industrial, Commercial, Healthcare and/or Institutional facilities


Skills / Qualifications

Role Requirements :
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, (Master's a Plus)
  • 15-25 years of professional experience in Electrical Engineering
  • Florida Licensed PE (licensure in other states and/or NCEES record a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems
  • Demonstrated maturity in judgment, initiative and client relations
  • Recognized and demonstrated leader in the Florida electrical engineering industry
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to prepare reports and proposals
  • Ability and willingness to develop business from new and existing clients
  • Must pass drug test, physical and background check and must have a satisfactory driver's license
  • Experience in municipal, commercial, state and Federal project assignments is a plus
  • Desire for continuous learning and ability to learn quickly on the job
  • Must be computer proficient with working knowledge of MS Office Suite and AutoCAD. Knowledge of Revit preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in Power Systems Analysis software (ETAP, SKM Power Tools, EasyPower, etc.)
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy
  • High receptivity to mentoring, learning and sharing of work knowledge for the benefit of the team
  • Adaptable to varying assignments as the design team grows and client base increases both in location and job responsibilities
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of professionals and trade disciplines

Desired Qualifications :
  • Multi-state engineering licensure
  • Training in OSHA 1926 as it applies to facilities design and construction preferred
  • Experience implementing a quality process highly preferred
  • Experience with risk assessments and field construction safety a plus
  • Experience with conceptual and detailed cost estimating within engineering discipline, experience estimating with other disciplines a plus
  • Existing local vendor relationships is desirable but not required
  • Ability to plan and execute electrical design engineering in the field
  • Experience with construction oversight, quality control, submittal reviews and RFI monitoring and management

Physical Demands :
  • Must have the ability to stoop, sit, stand, or be on their feet for extended periods of time and be able to handle standard field-testing equipment
  • Must have the ability to work in varying environments (office and field settings)
  • Willing to travel as needed
