Job Summary

The Senior Indirect Tax Accountant is responsible for reconciling account balances, maintaining general ledger, and preparing month-end close analyses. This role is responsible for ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting tasks for assigned functions and ensuring that the company is adhering to GAAP and company policy and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record journal entries for assigned functions
  • Analyze, update, and maintain account analyses for assigned functions
  • Assist in providing follow-up and documentation of significant account variances
  • Participate in special projects and prepare ad hoc analyses, as requested
  • Preparation of monthly Sales and Use tax files for US
  • Preparation of monthly Canadian GST, QST and BC tax files
  • Preparation of monthly US and Canadian Eco Fee returns
  • Compiling all required documents and schedules for Annual Personal Property tax filings
  • Assist in compiling reports and required documents for US and Canadian Audits
  • Responsible for managing and entering exemption requests into the Vertex system
  • Special Tax projects as needed
  • Serve as back-up month-end duties assigned to other Accountants as necessary
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications

Required Knowledge and Desired Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3 to 5 years relevant job experience
  • Strong understanding Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Proficient understanding of US and Canadian Indirect Taxes
  • Knowledge of SAP, Vertex O Series, Microsoft Office, proficient in Excel and Word
  • Verbal, Writing, and Interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team-based, continuous improvement environment
  • Self-motivated with effective organizational skills
  • Analytical and accounting skills, Supervision, Managing Processes and ability to meet deadlines, Strong Attention to Detail, General Math Skills
  • Expected travel up to 5% in US and Canada, no extended projects. Weekend work as needed
