The Senior Infrastructure Technician (Senior Data Center Technician) is responsible for installing, labeling, inspecting, maintaining and modifying CDW IT technical assets at CDW locations throughout North America. The Senior Technician has advanced knowledge of server, storage, voice and data systems and is responsible for assisting in the planning of new installations, upgrades and terminations of IT data center equipment. Additionally, the Senior Technician is responsible for IT data center management to include environmentals and power, asset management, materials and inventories of supplies.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, coordinate and oversee installation of new cabling and/or hardware at multiple CDW locations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair data and/or voice cable breaks or outages.
  • Maintain existing cable structure for all CDW facilities.
  • Oversee Data Center Operations inventories, tools and other supplies.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings and participate in cabling plans. Translate these documents into work products and actions.
  • Document, record, enter and maintain IT asset inventory in ServiceNow.
  • Manage CDW’s CMDB database and inventory for accuracy and completeness.
  • Mentor and coach junior cable technicians during various cabling projects.
  • Strict adherence to technical standards when installing and maintaining CDW’s Data Center Assets Cisco Network, HP Server and multiple Storage Systems installation and care.
  • Primary contact for CDW IT Data Center Audits.
  • Interact with CDW internal and external auditors to ensure CDW’s Data Centers are in compliance with regulations and expectations.
  • Maintain knowledge of CDW systems, vendors and processes to function independently with minimal supervision.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years Data Center or Technical Experience in related area

Required Qualifications

  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures unique to data and voice cabling.
  • In depth knowledge of cabling terminology and functionality.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot cabling problems.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • History of maintaining an inventory and ordering process.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours when necessary for special installations, implementations and upgrades.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • The ability to independently lift 60 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty are preferred.
