Senior Inventory Optimization Analyst

Senior Inventory Optimization Analyst within the Bob's Discount Furniture organization plays a vital role by assuring that we have optimal inventory levels and product availability by performing strategic analyses for the purpose of achieving best in class service levels.

The primary function and responsibility of this position is for category inventory management across Bob's Discount Furniture inventory replenishment network. Responsible for reporting and analytics of inventory strategies, executing article transitions, maintaining network balance through parameters, and collaborating with internal and external cross functional partners.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leverages inventory planning systems to execute "day to day" inventory control, in order to consistently achieve service level goals while minimizing inventory weeks of supply on hand across the global supply chain.
  • Identifies and prioritizes root causes of service level issues and excess inventory, and drives corrective actions and control mechanisms across cross-functional teams.
  • Utilizes and monitors reporting and daily analytics for all business metrics; taking appropriate and timely action to prevent out of stocks, minimize weeks of supply, and expedite delivery to fill potential backorders.
  • Supports and executes inventory strategy within the inventory planning system. Audits article master data in the system (e.g., lead times, units of measure, vendor article number, case quantity, dimensions, etc.) to ensure accuracy.
  • Partners with Demand Planning and Replenishment Planning teams to proactively identify fill rate and excess inventory issues, and execute respective corrective actions as needed.
  • Executes alignment of inventory system controls (minimum order quantities, min/max, safety stock, velocity rankings) with business objectives. Analyzes and communicates impact of proposed changes.
  • Collaborates with Merchandising, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Inventory, and Finance to incorporate the on-boarding of new products, retirement of old products, and promotions into the fulfillment planning process.
  • Supports and executes aged, obsolete and excess inventory reduction strategies. Analyzes forward buys to reduce exposure to excess inventory on hand.
  • Develop buy recommendations reflecting assortment and product lifecycle management, inventory management policies and strategic priorities.
  • Analyzes variations in factory and supply chain lead times relative to planned levels to identify areas of opportunity and input into the inventory planning system.
  • Support effective Fulfillment Planning through additional duties as requested.


Job Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Programs (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, Power BI, SharePoint, InfoPath)
  • Adept at working with various inventory management software solutions and forecasting strategies
  • Self-directed individual who can work independently and yet collaborate with team members cross-functionally as necessary. Work review typically involves periodic review of output by supervisor and/or direct "customers" of the process
  • Strong communication, negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent mathematical reasoning -- The ability to understand and analyze sales numbers and inventory management principles
  • Excellent time management skills -- Managing one's own time and the time of others
  • Ability to use critical thinking -- Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches
  • Demonstrated skill in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information, inconsistencies/anomalies in more complex research/data


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related discipline
  • Solid product knowledge of all lines of furniture and accessories
  • Full understanding and competence with inventory management software (e.g., SAP, Demand Solutions, SO99+, and other applicable tools)
  • Advanced knowledge of most Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and Power BI
  • Must be well versed with safety stock strategy, inventory optimization and stocking policies
  • Strong understanding of Retail Store operational processes
  • Excellent communication skills- both verbal and written
  • Strong listening skills


Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Inventory Management, Supply Chain Management
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in inventory planning, supply chain, and forecasting analytics
  • APICS Certification
  • Demonstrated capabilities working on large scale inventory initiatives
