The Role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will collaborate well with team members and efficiently multi-task between projects. Tasks will include a wide spectrum of engineering tasks with a focus on mechanical design, prototyping, planning of test and setup, testing as well as engineering calculations such as finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics. As a key member of the team, you will be the go-to person for mechanical engineering solutions for air and liquid particle counting systems.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and development of mechanical and opto-mechanical systems.
  • Design and development of tooling for production.
  • Creation of Execution of testing protocols for engineering and verification testing of optical gas and liquid handling systems.
  • Equipment hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Participate in DFMEA's and PFMEA's with interdisciplinary product teams.
  • Supports risk and configuration management activities.
  • Preparation of specifications and statements of work.
  • May act as a technical project manager on smaller scale projects scope is hardware based.
  • Preparation of Design Reviews as well as participating in design review presentations.
  • Manual preparation and user documentation.
  • Mentors and provides technical guidance to team members.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Opto-Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of hands-on mechanical engineering design and development.
  • A minimum of 5 years using SolidWorks or similar 3-D modeling tool.
  • Experience with fluid systems and opto-mechanics.
  • Experience with injection molded plastics, machined, and sheet metal parts.
  • Ability to specify the optimal alloys, plastics, carbon fiber, and other materials for a variety of environments.
  • Development of several mechanical systems, subsystems, or tools for commercial products.
  • Knowledge of product BOM structuring and ERP systems.
  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and tolerance analysis per ASME Y14.5M.
  • Experience in thermal / stress analysis (FEA), and fluid flow analysis (CFD).
  • Experience in tooling and fixture design.
  • Excellent technical problem-solving skills.

  • Must be capable to work in a fast pace interdisciplinary work environment.
  • Must be a self-starter, quick learner, and absolute team player.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • CSWA or CSWP Certification.

The Nuts and Bolts

Location - This is an "in-office" position 90-100% of the time with Covid precautions being taken. The location of this position is in Boulder, CO. Relocation may be offered for this role, but local candidates will receive first consideration.

Pay Range

$110,000-135,000 depending upon experience

How we determine what we pay (compensation philosophy)

Particle Measuring Systems determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for the Boulder, Colorado area. We will evaluate external equity, which is the relative marketplace job worth of jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.

For new hires, we to make competitive offers between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. This allows the new employee room for future merit increases during review cycles. There may be times when we will offer above the midpoint. The decision to do so will be based on the applicant's level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and the compensation rates of the employees within the company doing the same position.
