SUMMARY

At Kollmorgen, our mission is to be the best at solving the most demanding motion challenges through collaboration with our end users, customers, suppliers, innovation partners and each other. We are seeking to hire a full-time Senior Technical Writer position in Santa Barbara, CA. This Senior Technical Writer will develop, modify, and edit customer facing technical documentation, including HTML Help, product manuals, technical notes, datasheets, and sales publications.

In this role, the candidate will work directly with engineering and customer support teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of products and technologies. The primary responsibility is to generate content for an online support site and manage outside service providers (OSP) to assist in content generation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Create and edit product documentation for software and hardware.
• Work directly with engineers and outside vendors to document new product features, APIs, and GUIs.
• Create Online Help for various GUIs and print-friendly PDF documents from single-source.
• Help to maintain the company Support site with articles and uploaded content.
• Create release notes for software releases.
• Create and edit graphics, diagrams, and optimize digital photos.
• Create how-to videos and screencasts to convey technical concepts.
• Manage vendors and projects for translation and prepare deliverables for distribution.
• Function as liaison between translation providers and SME or reviewers.
• Utilize continuous improvement to refine workflows for improving the development cycle of documentation.
• Utilize project management for tracking projects.

Job Requirements

• Strong communication skills and the ability to comprehend high-level technology concepts and make them understandable in text and graphics is required.
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to organize and maintain a library of data and graphics.
• Ability to maintain attention to detail with high regard for quality and efficiency.
• Ability to maintain, cultivate, and grow vendor relationships.

• MadCap Lingo Translation Management or similar knowledge of various computer-aided translation tools is a plus.
• Experience with content strategy and writing content for localization is a plus.
• Proficiency with project management tools.
• Experience with Agile methodologies is a plus.
• Familiarity with motion control technology, software development, Visual BASIC, motion control, servo closed-loop control, I/O devices, and networks is a plus.
• Web development or programming experience with JS, PHP, or Python is a plus.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years experience in technical writing.
• Knowledge of HTML and CSS required.
• Proficiency with Madcap Flare CMS and similar tools.
• Proficiency with Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Corel Draw or equivalent software.
• Knowledge of the localization industry and a minimum of 2 years experience in translation or project coordination.

Internal: Engineering Team, Applications Engineering Team, Kollmorgen Marketing Team

External: Customer and vendor interaction.

Travel

Occasional travel may be required (both domestic and international) less than 10%
