Mary Marshall is looking for a Social Service Directorto join our team in Arlington, VA! This high-level position is a 8:00am-4:30pm position, that directly works under the Executive Director.

** IDEAL CANDIDATE will need a Masters in Social Work! Also, LCSW (strongly preferred). Manager on Duty Required every 10 weeks**

Objective: The Director of Resident Services supports the care and treatment of residents entrusted to the facility. To serve as a liaison and role model to the community for the facility. Represents the Social Service department, other care center staff and the facility as a whole to the community. Upholds the values and mission of Volunteers of America National Services to peers and the public. Customers include residents of the facility and their families, local healthcare professionals who work with the facility and staff, and the facility staff managers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Directs and delegates the management functions of resident coordinators.
  • Coordinates activities of various nursing units, promotes and maintains harmonious relationships among clinical personnel, and all other staff, residents and he public.
  • Interviews and hires department personnel or monitors and evaluates the process if delegated to another person. Counsels and/or disciplines employees on infractions of established rules; terminates employees when necessary.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and approves established wage changes.
  • Complete pre-admission and admission procedures for a designated group of residents, including psycho-social assessments and monthly documentation.
  • Plans and initiates hospital or in-home visits with prospective residents on an as needed basis.
  • Meets with new residents, as assigned, and assists with resident orientation and adjustment to their new environment; identifies and provides for the medically-related social, emotion, spiritual and psychological needs.
  • Completes admission documents with resident, family member and/or responsible party.
  • Advises residents and families of advance directives polices and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters degree in Social Work or related degree in social social sciences, with current state licensure.
  • Must meet all state licensing requirements.
  • Minimum of two (2) year experience of social work experience, preferably in a senior healthcare setting.
  • Minimum of two (2) year supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and Internet.
  • Possess well-developed interpersonal skills. Good communicator.
  • Organized and attentive to detail.
  • Team oriented and has ability to work effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Possess good customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Numerical ability necessary to make various computations in planning departmental objectives, keeping work records and schedules, preparing budgets, requisitioning supplies and monitoring inventory control.
  • Ability to work with residents of varying levels of responsiveness.
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Able to make a decision in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.
