Elsevier Health Technology is developing the next generation of clinical decision support and research tools that will empower data scientists to tackle global health problems now facing the world. We are fusing world class data/content with big data, machine learning technology, analytics, and predictive approaches to help facilitate the creation, and deployment of knowledge for use by clinicians to improve diagnosis and treatment.

Job Summary:

This position performs moderately difficult research, design, and software development assignments within a specific software functional area or product line. The position should have the ability to work on individual pieces of work and solve problems including the design of the program flow of individual pieces of code, effective coding, and unit testing.

Accountabilities:

  • Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.
  • Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity.
  • Work closely with other development team members to understand moderately complex product requirements and translate them into software designs.
  • Successfully implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
  • Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) while collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Resolve technical issues as necessary.
  • Keep abreast of new technology developments.
  • Complete bug fixes.

Preferred experience and technology requirements:
  • 3+ years progressive experience operating as a Software Engineer delivering quality software in an Agile environment.
  • BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required.
  • Strong hands-on, application development experience using Java and/or Python.
  • Experience developing APIs.
  • Experience developing for the cloud (AWS/Azure).
  • Experience building unit tests.
  • Experience developing secure code for database applications desirable.
  • Strong communication skills.
