Position Summary

This role is a position within the Corporate Accounting Department - Tax Controller Team, and will report directly to the Tax Controller Manager.

The responsibilities associated with this role include but is not limited to the:

  • Preparation and execution of a monthly corporate tax accounting close process
  • Preparation of tax books and records deliverables for firm entities for yearend tax compliance
  • Preparation of tax basis/income deliverables for quarterly tax provision/estimated payments
  • Maintenance of tax account logic for accounts and entities, ensuring consistent usage across ledgers
  • Support of firm tax in certain information reporting (e.g. Country by Country Reporting, transfer pricing)
  • Preparing analysis to support tax forecasting and planning
  • Maintenance of investment/legal entity hierarchies in our systems of record
In addition, this position will assist in the design, implementation and execution of process improvements and new initiatives to support the firm tax processes.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

Corporate Tax Accounting Close
  • Participate in the review and reconciliation of tax accounting data
  • Assist with the design, implementation and review of reconciliation / validation procedures to confirm the completeness and accuracy of taxable income and tax basis
  • Coordination with other internal stakeholders (Firm Tax, Corporate Accounting, etc.) to provide tax related information or provide PBC information to external service providers
  • Prepare tax estimates for certain processes
  • Participate in process improvement and efficiency efforts
Provision & Planning
  • Execution of taxable income/tax basis processes that support the firm's tax provision
  • Document SOX 404 processes related to the tax provision
  • Maintain book to tax difference records and account/legal entity logic
  • Preparation of consolidated tax provision workpapers and disclosures
  • Provide data and analysis support forecasting of taxable income to the firm tax team
  • Support firm tax data needs for certain information reporting (e.g. Country by Country Reporting, transfer pricing)
Tax Compliance
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of books and records used to prepare annual tax returns for firm entities
  • Assist firm tax and external service provider (PWC) as needed with questions/analysis of entity books and records
  • Assist with the review tax workpapers to ensure consistency with books and records
  • Assist in providing taxable income data for quarterly federal and state tax estimates
Data Management
  • Liaise with Corporate Accounting, Partnership Accounting and other stakeholders on process changes to improve tax reporting
  • Liaise with Enterprise Process Operations Support Team (EPOST) and Global Technology (GTS) to improve reporting and process functions related to tax reporting
  • Maintain investment and legal entity hierarchies in our systems of record


Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in accounting/tax required
  • Corporate tax compliance/provision experience preferred
  • Multi-ledger C corporation accounting experience preferred
  • Private equity experience preferred
Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree, required
  • Accounting or Finance major, or relevant experience in financial services and/or a similar accounting function combined with a major in another field, required
  • CPA or CPA-eligible preferred
  • Master's degree in Accounting/Taxation a plus

  • Solid technology and financial system skills a plus (training available for specific Carlyle systems)
