Job Description

This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. Relocation may be provided.

For all external applicants, we are targeting a start date on or after January 10th 2022 for this position.

Team Summary:

GM Global Manufacturing Engineering (ME) transforms new automotive product designs into reality and is comprised of approximately 5000 employees at over 150+ locations across 20 countries.

ME is a key element in the transformation toward Electric Vehicles in General Motors and ME works throughout the Vehicle and Propulsion Development Process starting with manufacturing feasibility analysis, through process and tooling design and construction, and culminating in the launch of exciting new products in our manufacturing plants.

The GM ME Information Technology (IT) team plays a vital role in creating and implementing IT solutions which enable the development, validation and manufacturing of Electric Vehicles and Propulsion Systems using sophisticated 3D CAD, simulation, and business analytical technologies, enabling the digital manufacturing process and system design prior to physical builds, and enabling virtual assessments of processes prior to the launch of the product in a manufacturing plant and integrate seamlessly with production critical Manufacturing (Mfg) Executions Systems.

The electrification of our propulsion systems is driving additional requirements including high speed manufacturing for both discrete and process manufacturing. ME IT collaborates closely with our business partners to develop the information system strategies and systems to translate breakthrough technologies into vehicles and experiences that people love.

About the role:

As the Senior Manufacturing Program Manager you will handle multiple medium size projects or a large-scale project. These projects may be of high-complexity in either technical or in business functionality delivering new business capabilities, substantial business value and support the transformation of GM to Zero, Zero, Zero.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Handles multiple medium-size to large-scale IT Project from beginning to end.
  • Defines project scope, charter, goals and results in support of business goals and works with senior leadership and partners for approvals
  • Ensures that projects are completed on time and meet all business and system requirements. Conducts all project management tasks to ensure schedule, cost, and quality goals are met
  • Demonstrates the expertise of a Senior Project Manager, scope is well detailed and managed properly throughout the delivery cycle of the project.
  • Develops project plans, schedule and work breakdown structure for projects
  • Works with software estimation group to ensure project staffing and resource plan
  • Collaborates with multi-functional teams including architects, software engineers, developers and technical leads to ensure timely delivery of project
  • Interacts with supplier community and procures vital infrastructure and tools.
  • Identifies and resolves issues/conflicts within the project team
  • Maintains project tracking and provides status reports to senior leadership
  • Ensures alignment to GM's system delivery process guidelines and provides early feedback to project teams to take proactive measures to resolve the issues
  • Adheres to organizational change processes during the project lifecycle
  • Ensures compliance with project work, and project financial accounting
  • Assess business and technology opportunities and threats.
  • Develop IT Portfolio project proposals including comprehensive cost and benefit analysis.
  • Proactively develop and maintain technical knowledge in specialized area(s), remaining up to date on current industry trends and standard methodologies. Apply expertise to produce solutions that enable consistency and standardization and facilitate exceptional performance.
  • Strive to engage in emerging technology assessments assessing value opportunities for the ME and Manufacturing business.
  • Support and communicate on-site and remotely with the global user base across various time zones (North America, South America, and Asia).
  • Follow through with commitments to meeting quality and schedule and foster mutual trust with leadership, fellow employees, and users.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field or an equivalent experience/training required
  • 5-7+ years of confirmed experience in the minimum qualifications
  • Experience with HP Program and Project Management (PPM) software
  • Experience with TFS
  • Experience in large scale enterprise wide IT system development & implementations
  • Experience Data Structuring, Data Management and Reporting
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work within a team and individual setting
  • The role may require some limited global travel.

Preferred Skill Set / Experience
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Experience in leading projects demonstrating different software development methodologies.
  • Strong skills in predictive analysis, specifically on development/deployment projects.
  • Experience in measuring project success factors with respect to cost, schedule and quality, i.e. product requirements quality, test quality and code quality.
  • Practical experience with requirements and test case development
  • Experience interacting with business customers and handling expectations
  • Validated work experience working as a Project Manager with a successful project delivery record
  • Ability to work with business interface teams and business leads to estimate cost and negotiate requirements to minimize project impact
  • Knowledge of data structures, data base design, data warehouses, business intelligence/analytic tools, ETL tools, and data integration methods
  • Experience with Agile, Scrum, Iterative, and/or Waterfall development and project methodologies
  • Experience in global manufacturing and/or engineering business operations
  • Experience in Automotive Manufacturing Engineering or Manufacturing
  • Experience in emerging technologies
