We are looking for a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to be a key contributor in the engineering and design of our state-of-the-art abrasive waterjet machines. This position will be located at our Kent, Washington location.

In this hands-on role, while collaborating with other engineering, manufacturing, and customer support teams at OMAX you will:
  • Engineer, develop, validate, document and release to manufacturing design concepts that meet product goals (performance, cost, manufacturability, serviceability) in a fast-paced environment with a quick development cycle from engineering to production
  • Determine mechanical architectures and design approaches in conjunction with electrical and software teams
  • Contribute to and follow the project schedule timelines and milestones based on critical path approach
  • Develop test plans and procedures, participate in test execution
  • Participate in design reviews by critically evaluating design concepts and providing constructive feedback
  • Support manufacturing and customer service organizations with training and troubleshooting to resolve issues on the production floor and at customer sites
Qualifications / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant mechanical design experience in complex automated machinery, machine tools, and mechanisms that are reliable, manufacturable, and serviceable
  • Ability to conceptualize system architectures and translate to design specifications, designs, and finished parts
  • Experience applying basic mechanical engineering principles and methods such as statics, dynamics, kinematics, FEA, and tolerance analysis
  • Experienced with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to manufacturing
  • Experience with manufacturing technologies such as machining, fabrication, casting, and plastic molding
  • Experience applying DFMA principles
  • Knowledge of motion control, pneumatics, and hydraulic systems
  • Experience with component selection for long-term manufacturing stability
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient user of SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD)
