Job Description:

The Sr. Software Engineer will work with a group of talented and dedicated people to improve and extend the digital product offerings on Intuitive’s surgical robotic product lines. The successful candidate will contribute broadly to the Data & Digital Development Group, with focused contribution on the network connectivity software on Intuitive’s surgical platforms.

As a senior member of the team, you will be involved in designing and maintaining system-side connectivity software as part of a holistic digital solution that is offered to our internal & external customers. The successful candidate must excel in a high-energy small focused team environment, be able to drive to solutions from rough requirements, and have a commitment to high product quality. Quick learning and a strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward are required, as is the ability to make work fun and interesting. Supporting you will be a development and management team that knows and cares about what you are doing, and wants you to succeed.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with a cross-functional team to design, develop and verify network connectivity software on Intuitive's surgical platforms 
  • Architect efficient and intelligent networking solutions for transferring various types of data to/from cloud-based ISI servers
  • Support root cause analysis and issue resolution for released products and products in production
  • Perform formal risk analysis and develop software mitigations
  • Contribute to and support the definition and design of future-forward solutions.

Skill/Job Requirements:

In order to adequately perform the responsibilities of this position, the individual MUST have:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with C/C++ and Python on embedded systems or IoT (Internet-of-things) devices (e.g. Arduino, Raspberry Pi)
  • Experience with network protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, HTTP, WebSocket)
  • Experience with network system design patterns (e.g. REST, Pub/Sub model)
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Previous experiences in the following areas are optional but desirable:

  • Experience with asynchronous programming (e.g. multi-threading, asyncio) is highly desirable
  • Experience with message queue system design  (e.g. MQTT) is highly desirable
  • Experience with full stack Python web framework (e.g. FASTAPI, Django, Flask) is a plus
  • Experience with cybersecurity elements (such as SSL, TLS, PKI, JWT) is a plus
  • Experience with medical device software development life cycle is a plus
  • Experience with industrial embedded OS (e.g. Yocto, QNX) and cross-compilation is a plus
