Position Summary:

The Senior Technical Writer is part of the R&D organization in Product Security, and is responsible for writing technical documents and formal risk assessments detailing cybersecurity, privacy, system architecture, compliance, and other technical topics. Requires an understanding of technical details and the ability to write documents for internal and external auditors, regulatory bodies, and component development teams. Requires attention to detail and conformity with defined formal processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create documents detailing the technical implementation of security and privacy requirements for internal and external development teams; internal and external auditors; and regulatory bodies or customers requiring disclosure of our practices.
  • Work with the lead technical writer with creating formal risk assessment reports following a defined formal risk assessment process.
  • Coordinate with program management staff on the steps needed for security reviews and the development of formal reports.
  • Develop technical data-flow diagrams in conjunction with peer technical writers and engineering leads to achieving a shared understanding of proposed architectural designs.
  • Write non-technical overview descriptions of components and services that provide stakeholders with a summary of system architecture and other program decisions.
  • Ensure all deliverables maintain a simple, succinct content flow with correct grammar and spelling.
  • Meet with stakeholders, including development teams, to understand their documentation needs from our team and ensure the documentation is of an appropriate level of thoroughness.
  • Collaborate with various subject matter experts from Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, Verification &Validation, Document Control, and Program Management
  • Employ efficient research practices to quickly understand and accurately document complex software systems and interfaces
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail with a focus on quality, consistency, and accuracy
  • Ability to work with little supervision and resolve problems as they arise

Essential Skills:
  • Solid proficiency in MS Word (including Styles and Template development), Excel, and Visio
  • Experience creating complex diagrams and flowcharts in Visio or similar software
  • Exhibits excellent time management skills to effectively organize and prioritize tasks among multiple projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to connect with cross-functional teams and leadership
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet and prioritize multiple deadlines
  • Work cross-collaboratively with product and engineers to ensure product documentation is technically accurate and aligns with the company's documentation needs and priorities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical background in the documentation of system designs, preferably security and/or privacy related
  • Preferred experience in Jira, Confluence, SnagIt, and Cloud PLM (or similar document control system)
  • Familiar with cloud computing services (e.g., Google Cloud Platform)
  • Familiar with both Agile and Waterfall product development methodologies
  • Experience includes technical writing in the healthcare or medical device industry
  • Familiarity with SDLC model, threat modeling, and risk assessments
  • Experience in cybersecurity, technology, privacy, requirements gathering

Functional Description

Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia, web-based publications and user sites; may produce content for embedded user assistance technology. Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation. Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users. May document engineering processes and specifications. Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements. Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.

Functional/Business Knowledge

  • Possesses broad understanding of technical principles and theories. Ability to synthesize external data and research findings for application that may impact technical objectives.

  • Demonstrates successes in technical proficiency and independent thought. Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Judgement

  • Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Masters degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years experience.

Exempt Salary Details:

  • The annual base salary range for this role is $75,200 to $125,300. Final compensation package will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, business needs and market demand.
