Job Description

Volunteers of America is looking for a PRN Staff Development Instructor, RN to facilitate training of new and existing staff within the region.

As a member of the Regional Staff Development Team, the Staff Development Instructor is responsible for teaching orientation for new employees, various training classes for existing employees, and annual skills training for all employees for the Volunteers of America facilities and programs in which we serve, which includes Valley Manor Care Center, Homestead at Montrose, and Horizons Care Center, and the Colorado Float Team. The focus of Staff Development is to assist individuals in being able to perform competently in fulfillment of the role expectations within the facility. This person is responsible for providing in-service training for all staff in accordance with Federal and State Rules and Regulations.

Types of Education Offered

General Orientation

In General Orientation, employees are introduced to infection control, personal protective equipment, safety requirements, and extensive residents rights training.

Job Orientation

Information/education necessary for a newly hired CNA or Nurse to initially perform the job for which he/she was hired. The purpose is to produce an employee who is a safe practitioner. There is an assessment made at this time of future learning needs.

In-Service Class/Continuing Education

Class time spent teaching a skill (use of equipment or a procedure), sharing of information and knowledge, or teaching an update of any health/safety related areas, and may not be formally planned or evaluated. Provides and facilitates one on one training as needed.

Continuing Education

There are a variety of classes offered to existing employees to further their education and knowledge in caring for others. The education activities may include workshops, conferences, seminars, courses and self-directed learning.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Current licensure in the state of Colorado as a Registered Nurse.

EXPERIENCE:

Registered Nurse with minimum of two (2) years experience in nursing in a long-term care setting, and/or adult education.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of gerontology, rehabilitative, and medical-surgical nursing care.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in concepts and techniques of adult education.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulatory requirements for long-term care.
  • Overall understanding of RAI process, Case Mix, and Medicare.
  • Knowledge of current Infection Control and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Professional attitude, high degree of self-motivation and leadership qualities.
  • Customer service oriented with knowledge of successful customer service techniques.
  • Demonstrates coaching, and mentoring abilities to facilitate learning of others.
  • Understanding of Corporate Compliance, and Abuse/Neglect guidelines.
  • Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.
  • Must be a team player
  • Must be willing to work in facilities that are following infection control precautions and regular testing for COVID-19.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • $34.32/hour
  • Flexible scheduling - you pick which classes you would like to teach!
  • Overtime is available and paid when working over 12 hours in a day and 40 hours in a week
  • Colorado SAFE Sick Pay
  • 403 (b) participation is available with annual company contributions after one year and 1,000 hours of service
