Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

FLSA Status

  • • Receives all deliveries and puts up stock in an organized manner and according to proper food safety code
    • Verifies items against invoices to ensure accuracy of the delivery, inspects received items for damage, signs delivery invoice and informs management of any discrepancies
    • Rotates all stock according to FIFO (first in first out) procedures and monitors items for expiration dates
    • Assists with taking inventory and placing orders as needed
    • Maintains sanitation and cleanliness of the walk in cooler, freezer, dry stock and storage rooms, walls, floors, racks and bins
    • Empties trash throughout assigned work area as needed
    • Works as a team member to provide the most efficient service to guests
    • Puts cleaning equipment away at the end of each shift and properly shuts down dish tank
    • Can assist with deliveries for vending, catering and other special events as necessary utilizing Eskenazi vehicles
    • Performs other job related duties as assigned
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Minimum of 1 years of experience in the service industry or a warehouse environment.

• Ability to read, write and understand English
• Basic math and computer skills are necessary. Must be capable of using a computer, including basic software programs.
• Ability to withstand sudden temperature changes from heat of kitchen to cold of the freezers
• Ability to identify chemicals and proper use of equipment
• Ability to follow infection control policies and procedures
• Ability to follow all Food and Nutrition Services policies and procedures (ISDH, JCAHO)
• Knowledge of safe food handling practices
• Ability to use age appropriate communication skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in a professional, courteous manner with food service staff and other hospital staff
• Valid Indiana Driver's License required if driving an Eskenazi Vehicle

The Steward II maintains the overall cleanliness and organization of all receiving and storage areas by rotating all stock according to FIFO (first in first out) procedures and monitors items for expiration dates. This position maintains sanitation and cleanliness of the walk in cooler, freezer, dry stock and storage rooms, walls, floors, racks, and bins.
  • • Maintains the overall cleanliness and organization of the dish area by washing and putting away dishes and kitchen equipment as assigned
    • As assigned stocks all assigned areas with service equipment (kitchenware, utensils, dishes and glassware)
    • Assists with taking inventory and placing orders as needed
    • Assists with cleanup of special events and catering as directed
    • Relieves other Food Service personnel as necessary for smooth operation of department
    • Attends in-services and completes E-Learning as assigned
  • Regular interdepartmental contacts to fill supply orders
  • External contacts limited to truckers at receiving dock
• Frequent heavy lifting in excess of 80 pounds, walking and standing
• Care must be taken to ensure safety to others and self

• Patient care areas, clinics, nursing offices
• May be required to attend meetings or perform work remote from clinic or hospital campus
