Strategic Communications Specialist

What We're Looking For: 

TheStrategic Communications Specialist is responsible for internal communicationscontent within our organization. This individual works to ensure employeesare kept informed and motivated. They will work within a team to seek,create, and implement new ways to communicate. Current communication channelsinclude, but are not limited to, employee intranet, email banners, internalsocial media, and other creative systems. Byworking closely with senior managers and their respective team members, the StrategicCommunications Specialist establishes and implements a planned communicationapproach of consistent and informational messaging while seeking feedback tounderstand the best approach to communicate various messages throughout theorganization. 

Responsibilitiesfor this role include:

  • Maintain a communications strategy in conjunction with senior managers
  • Ensure the purpose, vision, values, strategic initiatives, and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of communications mediums, including the Intranet, email announcements, or regular email banners. This role may also be required to work on the layout of content, presentations, and creative ways to send messages.
  • Storyboard or creatively translate ideas to the Strategic Communications Team and/or stakeholders for any given project
  • Assist in working with and leading a team of communications "Connecters" to help consistently align and meet the internal communication goals of the organization 
  • Work to ensure communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organization aligning with any external messaging that may occur
  • Collaborate with other members of the Strategic Communications team to ensure the objectives align and the goal of serving the greater good of the organization is met
  • Request and respond to feedback from employees adjusting communication content accordingly
  • Seek information from senior executives, senior managers, project managers, and other entities within the organization to ensure we are achieving appropriate levels of communication given the target audience
  • Formulate a communication plan that not only informs employees of what is going on within the organization but energizes, excites, and engages employees
  • Contribute to the annual meeting through helping plan, envision, create, and implement an event for all employees and stockholders throughout the organization

 

 

 Education & Experience Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor's degree in communications,creative writing, journalism, or related field. 4 -6 years' experience inCommunications, Public Relations, or relevant field. Other relevant combinationof education and/ or experience may also be considered.
  • Experience of writing for a variety of different audiences
  • General journalistic or marketing experience is beneficial
  • Prior management of complex projects and advising senior managers including advising them on complex internal communication challenges
  • Experience of developing and implementing internal communications strategies and measuring their effectiveness
  • Experience of advising and influencing senior managers on complex internal communications challenges and influencing them 
  • Experience of successfully influencing staff at all levels within an organization 
  • Provide leadership in managing an intranet and team of intranet editors/contributors
  • Passion to communicate an everyday message in a new and exciting way, in a way that illustrates more of the why than just the what
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally, and in writing and be interested in helping to improve communication systems going forward
  • Experience on a communications team, with emphasis on internal communications, for mid to large size firms desired but not required
  • Understanding and experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) is a plus
  • Storyboarding, Audio and Video editing skills is a plus
  • Knowledge of Sharepoint and other social media vehicles is a plus

  • Ability to do the following: walk, sit for extended periods of time, and stand; occasionally reach with hands, stoop, kneel, or crouch; occasionally lift to 40 pounds; read alpha/ numeric symbols for comprehension and editing with sufficient visual acuity.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to issues that arise.
  • Capability of working overtime on short, sometimes same day, notice.
