The Office of Financial Aid is a unit within the Division of Enrollment Management, which is comprised of four distinct units: Office of Admissions, Office of the University Registrar, Office of Financial Aid, and Technology Operations. Enrollment Management's integrated services provide distinctive support throughout the student's development and progression in their academic experience - from recruitment through commencement. Through collaboration, communication, and commitment, all units within Enrollment Management achieve the highest level of student-centered service to current and prospective students and families and to campus partners across the University.
Position is responsible for coordinating, analyzing, evaluating, verifying and awarding of campus-based aid with a focus on income reduction in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policies.
Coordinates the daily functions of campus based aid specific to income reduction. Acts as liaison between federal government processors to resolve issues in their area. Counsels applicants, students, their agents, and departmental representatives in matters concerning individual student aid eligibility; the process and time-line for creating packages; various aid types and eligibility; and process and time-line for disbursement and financial literacy. Interprets financial aid rules and policies from internal and external sources. Initiates action(s) to resolve student issues. Knowledgeable in other areas of campus based aid that include divorce and separation, cost of attendance, dependency overrides, emergency medical expense, non-elective medical/dental, death of parent/spouse, parent college enrollment as it impacts and relates to income reduction and financial literacy. May serve as a dedicated financial aid liaison for a specific program or department within the University.
Authorizes the processing of disbursements and audit awards of campus-based aid in accordance with the established institutional methodology and state and federal regulations. Researches issues that the system has flagged as possible violations of federal, state, and/or institutional compliance rules. These include, but are not limited to: initial and continuing student eligibility issues; 'over-awards' in which FSU has produced an aid package exceeding a student's actual cost of attendance; and withdrawals (both official and unofficial) which necessitate a student repay federal Title IV funds. Initiates research based upon ad hoc issue reports and may coordinate with FA Systems to design additional audits. Takes corrective action as needed. Conducts regular audits of section processes. Audits programs outside CBA annually as assigned by senior leadership and provides findings and recommendations to aid in quality control, compliance and improve efficiencies.
Provides support and information to OFA leadership in the following ways: participating in discussions and testing with OFA Systems, ERP, and ITS for quarterly CS PUM updates and system upgrades which have potential impacts for OFA; performing comprehensive testing of financial aid packaging logic annually; and by continually reviewing the effectiveness of OFA programs and processes. Recommends changes to improve efficiency, compliance, and the quality of student service. May share in the responsibility of implementing recommendations.
Reviews 'special circumstances' appeals. Evaluates appeals based on federal rules regarding allowable modification of government-determined dependency status, adjusted gross income, and estimated family contribution. Should an appeal be approved, updates federal financial aid (ISIR) database; overrides the FSU system-generated aid package to meet the student's eligibility; and manually disburses funds in coordination with Student Business Services. Overrides standard University-established cost of attendance based on documentation of additional expenses. Communicates with students regarding appeal status. Advises applicants and continuing students who are selected by U.S. Department of Education for verification.
Recommends policies and procedures to effectively administer financial aid related to campus-based aid. Assists with coordinating student financial programs and other sections during peak times to support the goals of the Office of Financial Aid.
QualificationsA Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

Anticipated salary range for this position is around $42,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
