University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
  • Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.

Primary Function of Position:

The mission of Supplier Engineering (SE) intern is to establish high quality and stable production processes for purchased components from suppliers operating under robust quality systems. Each SE is responsible for ensuring suppliers meet Intuitive requirements for product quality, cost, and service. This includes:

  • Identify the correct process for manufacturing the part, considering process quality, long term capacity and total lifecycle cost.
  • Identify where Design For Manufacturing (DFM) is appropriate to achieve higher quality, lower costs or better supply chain capacity
  • Qualify new components via the Production Part Qualification Process (PPQP), qualify capacity increases and production changes in our supply base via the Supplier Change Request (SCR) process, manage part quality issues via the management of Quality Notifications, and manage corrective and preventive actions with our suppliers via the Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) process.
  • Educate internal customers and suppliers regarding supplier quality, process and operational capabilities, best value manufacturing methods and tooling for key supplier processes

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • As part of the Supplier Engineering team, the intern will assist with migrating prototype and existing designs to production manufacturing solutions. This will include one or more of the following: 
  • Provide DFM feedbacks from suppliers to relevant stakeholders to be implemented for design or manufacturing improvements
  • Work with internal and external customers to address Variance Requests and non-conformances
  • Consolidate material selections, material selected for better manufacturability/lower cost and implemented proper test controls
  • Support Component Manufacturing Method and Supplier Selection
  • Help aggregate quotes and balance effort to change design to implement and tooling cost against BOM Cost reduction

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering or related degree-seeking program at the Bachelor’s level
  • Some Machining, Machine Design and Mechanics of Materials coursework completed.
  • Experience with GD&T, ideally including experience with change control is preferred
