About the Job

The Tax Manager is responsible for managing all tax and tax accounting functions for the AEG entities. This person is responsible for implementing and maintaining tax procedures and policies and work closely with the Director of Accounting and Controller to ensure that the tax policies are integrated in the accounting systems for the specific asset, liability and revenue recording processes. The Tax Manager will work closely with the Accounting Systems Director to review the systems of internal controls and the potential of implementing tax ledgers and tax systems to aid the Tax Manager in record keeping. The Tax Manager will ensure, establish and maintain tax accounting principles, policies, procedures and initiatives. The Tax Manager will work with our external auditors and tax preparers for all annual income tax filings including for the investor's partnership(s) and each required filings for our professional and management companies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accurate and timely filing of federal and state income tax payments and returns, working closely with the external tax firm
  • Prepare work papers supporting the Tax Provision as required for audit and updated through to the tax filing season, including state apportionments
  • Prepare and reconcile the Tax Trial Balance by state, by entity and consolidated
  • Reconcile tax liabilities and tax expense accounts
  • Reconcile and recommend appropriate separate expense, asset, liability accounts for various tax basis items that should be reported or recorded separately
  • Work closely with Legal and outside counsel on appropriate entity structures for states and when considering consolidation of existing entities
  • Review and approve tax returns as prepared by outside tax firm
  • Prepare Tax Planning workpapers for budget cycle and forecasts
  • Research, monitor and report on changes in federal and state regulations that may impact the company's tax position
  • Create workpapers that will rollforward from year to year and document appropriate tax positions
  • Prepare the Tax Provision memos for audit and tax (FIN 48, Tax Considerations of Acquisitions)
  • Be an integral part in acquisition integration and review of tax issues on acquiring practices as the company continues to grow.
  • Identify and promote efficiency and effectiveness through improved processes and automation.
  • Provide advice and counsel on matters to the VP -- Controller.
  • Promote AEGs core values.

Key Deliverables:

  • Timely and accurately filing of tax payments, returns, and tax provision
  • Provide subject matter expertise on implementation of tax provision and policies
  • Manage the accounting for federal and state income/franchise taxes and the preparation of accounting entries and accurate trial balances
  • Manager and coordinate the tax workpapers required in the audit processes and proactively communicate with auditors on accounting for complex tax transactions.
  • Create and maintain tax policies and procedures, tax memos internal and external (audit) and update as law and business environment change
  • Maintain organized tax files and appropriate security around the tax files
  • Support VP -- Controller with special tax and accounting projects and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
  • Master's degree or CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years in corporate tax related fields and accounting
  • Healthcare experience is a plus.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in using MS Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations and law and current issues, special emphasis with partnership taxation as well as corporate taxation
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ability to use software to develop spreadsheets and perform data analysis.
  • Ability to interpret data and make recommendations.
  • Ability to identify, initiate and execute plans for process improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently with a sense of urgency, working well under pressure
  • Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor; the role interacts with investors as well regarding K-1 statements
